1863 Cent with missing 1

Had this cent for half a century and as missing digits can be caused by grease in the dies it also can just be mutilation. This cent is missing most of the "1" in the date but also has some very weak lettering on UNITED STATES. If it was a die issue, maybe others are out there. Anyone else ever see one? Thoughts?

Probably grease. Novelty with no significant value.
I agree and it is so easy to copy and paste to post.

Looks like pmd and that the 1 was removed, defacing the IHC. Peace Roy

Looks like post mint damage to me.
I say Grease filled die too - the letters of "UNITED STATES" are also affected
EDIT: Nice example - may have a slight premium.

Because there is a piece of the base of the 1 remaining, I will go with PMD. Cheers, RickO
