Kennedys are my quest...
One never knows what one will find in these rolls. I found only ONE 'S' mintmark Lincoln for the years 1968-1974. When I find these I set them aside, unless really beat up in which case they go in the bag with the rest of the bronze cents. I've got a roll going for these. My Whitman album for Lincolns from 1941 only has enough openings to accomodate business strike Lincolns up to 1975. That's perfect far as I'm concerned. I decided to not try to collect Lincoln cents by date/mintmark made from 1975 on anyway because 1975 was the first year that a mint produced in excess of 5B pennies. Philadelphia mint in 1975 produced 5,451,476,142 pennies which represents about 1/5 of the total of all Wheat cents ever made. Having said that, I do check my roll finds for 1983 DblDie Rev,1984 Doubled Ear and 1995 DblDie Obv. If I find a nice enough one of these I will use one of my vouchers and send it in to PCGS for slabbing. To date, no cigar. I just checked my log that I keep of # of boxes of Lincolns that I have searched since getting active with penny roll searching and see that I have hunted 7 boxes since October. I wrote in the original giveaway thread that I have searched 6 boxes with 15,000 coins total but that's not right. Total bank boxes of cents searched by me in 2021 is actually 7 or 17,500 coins.
When I take the zinc composition pennies to the bank for folding money from this latest roll search, I will add a 1909 V.D.B. cent to the bag of about 3800 coins. So, anyone here who hunts penny rolls from a bank that gets their penny boxes from the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis,Minnesota...be on the lookout for a nice surprise find...a 1909 V.D.B. I never found a 1909 dated penny when I was a kid, much less a 1909 V.D.B.
This thread now open for discussion about penny roll box or bag finds. All are welcome to share their experience here. I've got a story to tell about a 1909-S V.D.B. found back in the day. I never found one of these. And God knows I searched. It's the holy grail for Lincoln penny collectors, barring all other penny holy grails. I'll tell the true story a little later here in this thread.

Yes you were close Elmer. 5 out of the 67 eligible guesses indicated a 1919 as the earliest. Coinhunter4 was closest with count, however. Coinhunter4 guessed 15 wheaties found. The actual total count is 12.

I'm sending you three wheat pennies with an estimated retail value of $50 total. The 1958-D (RB and near MS) I'm sending you is an additional item. Found by me in one of the 100 rolls I searched, it's intended to be a souvenir of this giveaway for you to cherish.

If they're retail value is $50, I'll definitely need them for my wheat cent folder.
Ok, I'll write some information on the '58-Ds flip so I remember where I got it from.
Again, thanks for the contest!

I didn't put my name on the 2x2 housing the '58-D but I did make some other indications on the holder. This has been a lot of fun for me. I might do another giveaway later this year.
All you bank roll searchers keep an eye out for that 1909 V.D.B. i'm putting in the bag with the zincs for my bank to bag and send to FRB in Minneapolis.

1909 V.D.B. AND 1909 without V.D.B. going into bag of pennies (about $38 worth) returned to the bank for folding money. I was thinking, why not double the fun? Obviously, I have no control of who might find one or both of these 1909 pennies but I hope the finder is a budding young collector. The story I have to share about a 1909-S V.D.B. found in circulation (wasn't me who found it) will have to wait for another day. Thank you to all sixty-seven members who participated in this giveaway.

Every wheat penny I find in circulation delights me. That's lots of delight bang for the buck for me by searching the bank boxes of pennies. In the early '60's, mom and I would sit together at the kitchen table searching rolls of pennies for our Whitman folders. My youngest brother has her folder now with the pennies she found out of those rolls. She was missing only four coins, 1909-1940, when she passed long ago. My brother provided a 1909-S without V.D.B. for her folder a few years ago and I provided a 1931-S for it fairly recently.
