I couldn't tell you so I'm just tagging myself and waiting on responses.
However, I will guess its a fake as the 1 looks doctored.

Right when I saw it I was going to say I see a 44 but not a 14.

I think it is real, just a little trash or damage taking away from the second "1's" credibility. I agree with the F15.

A little hard to tell from the photos and the dark color of the coin.
My dumb guess would be a 1914 with an added mint mark.
The mint mark seems a little further to the right than it should be and also appears to tilt left.
There are several mint mark positions but if you line them up with the back of the 9 you can see the differences.
The genuine ones seem to be fairly straight or tilt to the right.

    nah. it's not a altered 44

Can you provide some photos with better/more light and close up of the date? I cannot see if the diagnostic die crack is present or not, or if that is just a die chip next to the 1.

I don't like the lighting angle of the image and the darkness of the coin itself to get a good read on it.

If you tilt the picture level then the D looks straight however I’m kind of dizzy today I think I caught the Omicron.

Thanks @MsMorrisine for some reason I was not able to save the file.

The mint mark doesn't seem quite as tilted. ;)

Looks like it may be a match for this one you would need to compare in hand.

Pat, not meant as a criticism, but as a Coin Dealer of 20+ years, how is it that you don't know this already?? put another way, we should be asking YOU to authenticate this, not the other way around.

Send it to our hosts for a second opinion. It will be much easier to sell that way.

Looks OK and probably in the VF-XF range but how can we grade it if you only show us the obverse?

Please post a photo of the reverse, too.

Just my 2c. but I don't like the shape of the MM or it's internal opening.

I looks altered to me, but the photo is too dark to be sure.

The photo was playing games with my eyes at first but it seems to line up pretty good.

  • robecrobec Posts: 6,760 ✭✭✭✭✭

The second 1 in the date looks like it’s been cut down. It looks shorter than the first 1. Sure would like to see a better photo of the date. I could be seeing artifacts.

Heck of a place for a die chip... at least it looks like a die chip to me in those dark pictures. Cheers, RickO

Based on the current photos posted by the OP, genuine. I think it has enough detail to make VF20.

I agree. Inside of MM has the angular look. One of the sharper strikes, too. Most are fuzzy/softly struck.

Noticeable but very minimal wear. I like it as AU-50.
