Fast delivery of 1848 gold $5 by the US Post Office and someone else?
I ordered this coin on Ebay from a large dealer in Ohio to be shipped to California.
United States $5 1848
Gold, 21.6 mm, 8.32 gm
The dealer shipped the coin on Tuesday December 21 and the US Postal Service said it would arrive on December 27.
The coin arrived yesterday (December 23).
Either the US Post Office is getting faster or the fat man in the red suit helped the coin along for Christmas.
I bought the coin for historical reasons as it goes with my large cent from the same year.
United States Large Cent 1848
Copper, 27.5 mm, 10.50 gm

That is great delivery time.... I notice all my packages have been fast for the last few weeks.... One left to arrive and that is coming today. Cheers, RickO
My 1876 IHC shipped on a Monday and arrived that Friday. That’s decent I suppose.

I had 2 registered USPS packages show up on time this past week .... I have had good results with good old USPS services .. on the other hand UPS 2 day service is a joke ... one now lost 12 days and counting .. claim submitted ... I think Signature required with UPS MAY BE is a magnet for theft

Kudos to the post office during this busy season. I've had a lot of good results.
Lucky you. I ordered an expensive gold coin from a New York City dealer which was supposed to be overnighted. It seemed to get lost in the system, with no tracking notices. I was concerned that someone had lifted it. It did show up a day late, but the tracking information did not show until it arrived at a major distribution center.
Lucky you!
Most recently, I had a coin delivered by the USPS PRIORITY MAIL system. For seven days it shifted daily back and forth between Middlesex, MA distribution center and the Avon, MA postal center. This happens all the time to me. I was once a big fan of the USPS, but now...

Glad someone had good luck with the USPS. Not me. Registered mail, fully insured, took 59 days but did eventually get there.
