Released into circulation

Found in circulation decades ago.

Thinning out and liquidating much of my collection in 2021. Swapped out the nickels in my Jefferson folder with some AU/BU ones that I bought many years ago and put the circulated ones in my "spend-box".

Whenever I go to the supermarket or department store I grab a handful of change out of the till. Always go to the self-service check-out so I guess these will end up in rolls of nickels somewhere. Maybe they'll wind up in someone else's Whitman folder!

I see these old nickels from time to time in my change... even war nickels. No idea where you are located, however, someone keeps these circulating in my area. Not me... at least not the war nickels I find... I keep those. Cheers, RickO

@Jim703 I have been doing the same thing. I emptied my Jefferson folder from when I was a kid and have been spending them and putting them in the coin counter at the bank. I also released a bunch of wheaties and a few Native Head cents into the wild. Maybe some new collector will come on board. Next up will be some bufflaos.

A nice way to spark a future collector.

Kehooool, from my observation Jeffersons seem to be gaining some popularity among our young folks as they can find older stuff in circulation, when I started collecting Jeffersons in the early 70's if I got a 39 in change it seemed like it was a hundred years old  so I can only imagine what a youngster thinks if they get a Jefferson from the 60's let alone 30's 40's & 50's Good Job Jim

I've been putting dateless and common date buffalos back into circulation for the past several years. Hoping to spark a future collector.

In 1964, at the age of 8 yrs, my mom gave me my weekly allowance of .25c, two dimes, 5 penneys. I noticed one of the cents was very very old but in good shape. I walked to the library and checked out a blue book and a B&D grading book. My 1913-D Lincoln was worth something. Later, I walked to the hobby shop and showed it to the man at the counter. He looked at it with a magnifying lens and offered me $1 for it. I was hooked.
I hounded my dad for weeks telling him I wanted to go to a coin shop. When he finally gave in and took me, I noticed the "bid board" with a 1964 proof set with a $30 or so bid. Spent my dollar on some common wheat cents in the teens and twentys. I saved my allowance and made my first mint purchase of a 1965SMS. In hindsight, I should have saved those silver lady and man dimes instead. Who knew they would be more than 2x face value.

When I sold some silver to a dealer last year they gave me a polished 1950s nickel and a couple of details wheaties. I turned around and spent them :)
