Chinese Collectors

Every order I look at on the Shared Orders Page that was Submitted by Collectors of Chinese coins tends to have multiple cleaned, altered and counterfeit coins. It seems more coins have problems than straight grade. Are these Collectors just so new at the hobby that they can't tell good from bad, or do they just not care?

This is US coin forum.. and be careful of inappropriate stereotypes...
How much do these particular problem coins sell for?
Some Chinese problem coins can still sell for hefty premiums.
China coin is very hot. Some of them sell for very high price. Below are some from 12-11-2021 HA auction,
this one is scarce but still little high for a repaired coin

Actually it is pretty easy to understand why even details coins are also in demand. How many China coins graded by PCGS, NGC and ANACS; maybe 20 to 40 thousand or even less than that. How many people in China want to buy pre-1949 coins, 100K, million, 10 millions or even 100 millions? There are just not enough coins on the market that's why auction price goes up one auction after another auction.
I sold hundreds of them some MS some with problems they sell for good money. I still have some but they are in a league of there own. They make fake in Chinese as well hard to tell some times some are made well, I Love the dragon coins.
Hoard the keys.
Pre-1949 Chinese coins are heavily counterfeited, especially the Fatman and Dragon dollars. I would never buy one raw, just as I would never buy their US equivalents like Trade or Seated dollars raw. When I look at auction listings, problem free examples are few and far between. They really took a beating. They didn’t just sit in bags for decades like Morgan dollars.
I have noticed growing activity and rising prices for Chinese coins.... Not sure what factors are contributing to this, but definitely an active sector right now. Cheers, RickO
Here was some I pick some time ago.

Well, even fake coin sell for good price if is rare.
Some people buy this kind of fake for study , some buy it hopping it can be graded by another company.
In many parts of the world, cleaned and altered problems on coins are not as heavily emphasized as in the US. In fact I would say that the US is the most conservative country in the world when it comes to grading (which has been heavily influenced by the TPG's)
In Mexico it is normal to have coins polished, sometimes when I visit stores there they ask if I want them to polish the coins I am buying after checkout. It seems to be especially true with countries with a lot of flea style markets.

I buy them to study them so I know if I see one not to be taken by a fake. Like this little book I have need a bigger book now.
Hoard the keys.
I have never had an interest in foreign coins, but I do own 2 pandas purchased in the 80's.

They still are in the sleeves they came in.
Here is one for show.

Kennedys are my quest...
Is that a REAL little red book?
Yup. Lol
Hoard the keys.
Are you talking about this red book? LOL
Is that a genuine panda, or were you bamboozled?
Chinese coins are extremely popular and many were crudely made and/or have since been damaged. Authenticity is a huge concern. In short, there’s a lot of money to be made with having these graded, and that gives reason to send them in. Even with problems, these coins can be very popular, far more so than US coinage with issues.
No real. LOL

Kennedys are my quest...
My only Chinese coin. They only give ya 30 gms of silver!
I'm really not interested in "Chinesium" coins.
I have a tough enough time sorting through the deluge of fakes they heap on us already.

When I buy silver panda I usually buy a sealed “sheet” from those several big dealers. These days the “sheet” is not sealed anymore, and the weight is 30g. I stopped buying. This is my favorite design.
