12 Days of Christmas Carnage IX : (Merry Christmas - ending with a whimper...)

Nothing much to say about this years carnage other than I think it will be the most number of packs I've done in any one of these.

For only the second time, there will be no '50s cello to open this year :(

As mentioned last year, next year will be the final one of these Christmas ripping marathons! Nothing will probably beat last year, but I'm hoping for a few surprises next year along with the normal selection of "special" packs. I still have a whole year to find some more stuff!

Below is this year's selection of packs, followed by the schedule:

14 - 5 – '87 Wax - (Cunningham RC)
15 - 6 – '85 Wax, '85 Cello, '82 Cello
16 - '83 Rack, 6 -'83 Wax - (Allen RC)
17 - 2 – '84 Wax, '84 Cello, '81 Cello - (Clark RC)
18 - 7 – '80 Wax, '81 Cello - (Simms RC)
19 - 2 - '81 Wax, 2 - '81 Rack, '81 Cello - (Montana RC)
20 - 4 – '86 Wax, 1 – '86 Rack - (Young RC)
21 - 2 – '78 Wax, 2 – '79 Wax - (2 Shell RCs)
22 - 2 – '78 Wax, '79 Rack - ('79 Dorsett)
23 - '77 Wax, '78 Rack
24 - '75 Wax, '76 Cello - (Swann RC)
25 - '64 Wax, '72 Wax

The Prequels:

2020 - 12 Days of Christmas Carnage VIII (2 - '58 Cello - Brown RC!)
2019 - 12 Days of Christmas Carnage VII ('58 Cello)
2018 - 12 Days of Christmas Carnage VI ('59 Cello)
2017 - 12 Days of Christmas Carnage V ('58 & '60 Cello)
2016 - 12 Days of Christmas Carnage IV ('60 Cello)
2015 - 12 Days of Christmas Carnage III ('58 Cello)
2014 - 12 Days of Christmas Carnage II ('59 & '60 Cello)
2013 - 12 Days of Christmas Carnage I ('58 Cello)
2012 - Christmas - (2 - '58 Cellos)
2011 - Christmas - ('58 Cello)

Nope. I do usually record the "big" packs, but never release them.

The Cunningham RC is so underrated. Such an iconic 1980’s QB at a time when pocket passers were the norm. He was josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts before dual option QBs were a thing in the NFL. Nice start!

You know it. Cunningham? He got Kosar and Kevin Mack!

No big hits? You got Ken Anderson, the greatest QB ever, and Tommy Kramer, the greatest Rice University QB ever!

This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.
  • This is such an epic thread every year. Looking forward to seeing what Santa has in store for you this year.

to me it doesn't matter if you pull huge hits. I dont open wax, so it is a blast to live vicariously through this thread.

I, for one, will certainly miss this yearly event when it is over. a yearly highlight for sure!!

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Beautiful Allen RC. Just a bit of stray print above his shoulder pad. Otherwise, looks like a solid 10 candidate from the scan. Congrats! Love this thread.

Great pulls! Too bad about that Payton. I'd be super happy with those and the centering on most!

Always outstanding to see a pack fresh Montana pulled…congrats on unearthing this iconic 80s RC. Great thread as always!

As a lifelong 49ers fan, I just love seeing the perfectly centered pack fresh Dwight Clark followed by a pack fresh Joe Montana rookie. congrats!

Neat! I like the 1981 Zorn, as it sneaks in a nice shot of Largent sitting next to him on the bench. A QB and his HOF WR next to each other. Neat shot.

lots of very sharp cards with a mic drop on the last one!

  • gemintgemint Posts: 6,101 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Nice Young RC.

Where did the '81 Montana fall between? I see a few familiar cards in there but I've bought racks containing those cards but Montana was conspicuously absent.

    That Young looks sharp, nice.

Those 86s look super sharp, congrats on the Young. Was recently watching an interview with him on CNBC, guy looks great - like his name says it all.

Interesting choice of photo for Roger Craig. I actually like it!
