12 Days of Christmas Carnage IX : (Merry Christmas - ending with a whimper...)
Nothing much to say about this years carnage other than I think it will be the most number of packs I've done in any one of these.
For only the second time, there will be no '50s cello to open this year
As mentioned last year, next year will be the final one of these Christmas ripping marathons! Nothing will probably beat last year, but I'm hoping for a few surprises next year along with the normal selection of "special" packs. I still have a whole year to find some more stuff!
Below is this year's selection of packs, followed by the schedule:
14 - 5 – '87 Wax - (Cunningham RC)

Always enjoyable!
I say this every year but this is my favorite thread of the year. Best of luck and thanks for sharing.
As always, looking forward to seeing what you pull!
Outstanding selection! Cannot wait for the potential in the 1986 rack. This is an all-time great holiday tradition. Thanks for sharing and best of luck on the rips!
A tremendous selection for an awesome tradition! Looking forward!
Thanks,
John
Are the previous year(s) 12 Days breaks on video (You Tube, etc.)?
Can’t wait for this.
Thanks,
David (LD_Ferg)
1985 Topps Football (starting in psa 8) - #9 - started 05/21/06
Great stuff Scott! Can't wait. Merry Christmas and GOOD LUCK!
PC Walter Payton - Bear Down!
always look forward to this rip
good luck
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
I always wait for this time of year just for this thread. My favorite of the year for sure. you have a great assortment of packs this year!!!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Don't do it!!! Just kidding - always one of the best posts of the year to drool over.
Nope. I do usually record the "big" packs, but never release them.
Day 1 - 5 Packs of '87 wax
All packs yielded some pretty nice cards! Each also contained 3 or 4 throw away cards too, gum, wax and at least one mechanical (on edge) damage!
Too many cards to show them all, so here are the best of the bunch:
The Cunningham RC is so underrated. Such an iconic 1980’s QB at a time when pocket passers were the norm. He was josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts before dual option QBs were a thing in the NFL. Nice start!
Love the shoulder pads on Kevin Mack...he was a beast....Go browns!!
You know it. Cunningham? He got Kosar and Kevin Mack!
Day 2 - 1 '82 Cello
Not much to show for this pack, no stars to be found and a lot of off centered cards.
1 - '85 Cello
No major star power here either, but quite a few nice cards in this tough series.
6 - '85 Wax
Once again, a lot of nice cards but no big hits...
No big hits? You got Ken Anderson, the greatest QB ever, and Tommy Kramer, the greatest Rice University QB ever!
This is such an epic thread every year. Looking forward to seeing what Santa has in store for you this year.
to me it doesn't matter if you pull huge hits. I dont open wax, so it is a blast to live vicariously through this thread.
I, for one, will certainly miss this yearly event when it is over. a yearly highlight for sure!!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I love some sharp 85T football (and 86T baseball).
Day 3 - 1 '83 Rack
This rack had a few nice cards, but mostly a lot of off centered commons.
6 - '83 Wax
Quite a few nice cards from the wax packs. A lot of mildly off centered cards with a few really nice ones!
Unfortunately, the above Payton was damaged on the back
and an Allen RC!
Always enjoy this thread. Love the double Hannah sighting!
Yaz Master Set
#1 Gino Cappelletti master set
#1 John Hannah master set
Also collecting Andre Tippett, Patriots Greats' RCs, Dwight Evans, 1964 Venezuelan Topps, 1974 Topps Red Sox
Nice football break!!! I remember them well!!! Thanks for sharing!
Live long, and prosper.
Beautiful Allen RC. Just a bit of stray print above his shoulder pad. Otherwise, looks like a solid 10 candidate from the scan. Congrats! Love this thread.
Great pulls! Too bad about that Payton. I'd be super happy with those and the centering on most!
PC Walter Payton - Bear Down!
Day 4 - 2 – '84 Wax
Nothing too great from the wax packs. Packaged gum makes another appearance in an '84 wax pack! Mostly off centered stuff, which is pretty typical for '84 topps football.
Pack #1: All cards
Pack #2: All cards
'84 Cello
This cello faired a little better, more than a handful of nicely centered cards plus a Montana!
'81 Cello
This cello would have been a complete bust if it hadn't have been for a decent Clark RC. The last 7 or or cards in the cello had bottom left corner dings, but all were commons.
that's a good-looking Clark
congrats

Day 5 - 7 – '80 Wax
What a great set of packs these where, WOW. All cards from each pack where scanned, with the majority of them yielding a solid 3 or 4 nicely centered cards. Quite a bit of star power showed up too!
Pack #1
Pack #2
Pack #3
Pack #4
Pack #5
Pack #6
Pack #7
'81 Cello
The night didn't finish well with this cello pack. It must have been dropped or something along it's 40 year journey to being opened. One corner of each card was damaged. Since I was a scanning everything tonight, I've also included all of them too!
Day 6 - 2 - '81 Wax
I always like opening '81 Topps, cut my pack ripping teeth on these back in the day! Was hoping for a maybe a surprise Montana in one of these wax packs, but wasn't meant to be. They had a few nice cards however.
Wax Pack 1
Wax Pack 2
'81 Cello
This cello turned out better than yesterday's. Quite a few well centered cards.
'81 Rack Pack 1
Nothing too great here...
Cell 1
Cell 2 - The Hayes cards were back to back in the pack, never seen that before!
Another rookie Clark!
Cell 3 - Best cell in the rack
'81 Rack Pack 2
This second rack was included in this year's rip just to get a Montana in this year I knew it wasn't going to be a nice one, but it's always nice to see one pulled. The rack also contained some other stars too that were also well centered!
Cell 1
Cell 2
Cell 3
Always outstanding to see a pack fresh Montana pulled…congrats on unearthing this iconic 80s RC. Great thread as always!
As a lifelong 49ers fan, I just love seeing the perfectly centered pack fresh Dwight Clark followed by a pack fresh Joe Montana rookie. congrats!
Enjoying your thread tremendously!!!! Thanks again, and again, and again.
Live long, and prosper.
Neat! I like the 1981 Zorn, as it sneaks in a nice shot of Largent sitting next to him on the bench. A QB and his HOF WR next to each other. Neat shot.

You say this is the last time. But we all know you will be back on the wagon this time next year.
Nope, next year will be the last year!
Day 7 - 4 – '86 Wax
Another great set of packs tonight. Lots of centered cards with many being major stars!
No Rice this year though.

'86 Rack
Cell 1
Cell 2 - An Eagles fan's quad-fecta
Cell 3 - BINGO
lots of very sharp cards with a mic drop on the last one!
Nice Young RC.
Where did the '81 Montana fall between? I see a few familiar cards in there but I've bought racks containing those cards but Montana was conspicuously absent.
That Young looks sharp, nice.
Congrats on the beautiful 86's! Tough years for high grades. Those 3 Bears cards are great!
PC Walter Payton - Bear Down!
looks like a very nice young. I also like seeing Reggie White make an appearance.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Great looking Young RC and a nice Elway too!
Day 8 - 2 – '78 Wax
These 2 '78s were kind of a bust...
Pack 1
Pack 2
2 – '79 Wax
These 2 provided a little more star power. Double star power even, but with one of those being the gum card!
Pack 1
Pack 2 - Another Shell and Staubach
Day 9 - 2 – '78 Wax,
No much on the '78 front again tonight.
Pack 1
Pack 2
The Haynes was the wax on front card
'79 Rack
Pretty nice group of cards from this rack, cells 2 and 3 were great with centering. Many HOFs including a very nice Dorsett.

Cell 3
That Dorsett looks on point. Nice pull!!
Those 86s look super sharp, congrats on the Young. Was recently watching an interview with him on CNBC, guy looks great - like his name says it all.
Interesting choice of photo for Roger Craig. I actually like it!
Thanks again for the tradition here
Very nice looking TD.
