Obvious fake Lynchburg 50C on eBay

BarberianBarberian Posts: 4,643 ✭✭✭✭✭

Another obvious fake commemorative on eBay. Check out the hair and lettering. Not even close, yet it has three bids at the moment. The auction ends in 4 days.

While your guys are at it, also report this fake fantasy piece that the seller is claiming as real silver.

Why would you not? You can make it for $2 and sell it for $200.

The seller said he was working on consignment for an estate and didn't know anything about coins. He thanked me for letting him know the coin was fake. I believe he was telling the truth.

The crooks want to argue and say they're long-time dealers or say they took the coin to two other dealers to confirm it was OK. Then you have to pin them down with photos of their coin versus TPG graded coins. The crooks are more fun to deal with, IMO, because eventually, I get to say "you're either ignorant about this coin or you're a lying crook. Which is it?"

I just notified him about that coin as well, i.e., there's no such thing as a 1799 "commemorative restrike" dollar, that the coin is an unmarked replica, essentially a counterfeit coin, and is against eBay policy. We'll see what happens to it.

I am full of rage but in a very chill and nonchalant way.
