No stems, no seeds that you don't need...

I've been slowly working on some of the earlier large cents for my Redbook variety set. I've had my eyes on this one for quite a while, and finally made an offer. She's finally arrived and needs some company here in the thread. I'd like to see your old coppers, if you've got 'em.

    I've always wondered this: Old large cents when minted were red. Is it considered tone ("tarnish") when they fade to brown? If so, are brown large cents- like those within this thread- disdained by anti-toned lovers?

    @braddick We like to use the term "mellowed".

    I had a bunch of these 15 or so years ago, thought the overdate neat. Never as nice as yours.

    @hummingbird_coins,

    I agree. That 1804 wouldn't look so out of place in an AU55 holder.

    Here’s my oldest. I know it’s not exactly correct but it was used in “the colonies “. 1748 😉 poor mans

    Nope.

    NY Island was not bought with Dutch coins dated 1748.

    Wondered about that 😂. I was always told beads were involved !
    Apparently historically correct facts were not a requirement. Its a nice coin and was a yard sale find about 5 years ago. $1. Turns out to be my only copper of that vintage. Thanks 🙏
