    Agree. ANACS was strict with gold in the pre-grade-inflation days. Today it would probably get a higher grade.

    Gold dollars in the 1880s come nice. They did not circulate very much, and the mint did a great job in making them. This one has the usual nice luster for the period, but there are a number of small marks which account for the grade.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    I like the AU 55/55 pieces. I don't think they used AU58 as I have never seen an ANACS photo cert with the grade of 58/58.
