2019-W San Antonio 25C MS69 Truly Does Exist!

WQuarterFreddieWQuarterFreddie Posts: 3,084 ✭✭✭✭✭

I heard a rumor yesterday that this coin was real and today I found proof that it really does exist!

I personally do not like the seller of this coin due to a personal experience with him but I do know that he has invested a lot of his time and money in to finding W quarters. This person is not an individual who looks through a few boxes in search of W quarters and got lucky.🙄

He told me before that he hired someone to travel through out the Southern states acquiring as many new coin boxes to CRH for W quarters so the odds were in his favor to find W quarters!🤑

I wish I had known about this quarter before I saw him at his booth at the Whitman Coin show on Friday so I could have congratulated him and asked him if he personally found it or bought it before allegedly selling it on Ebay for $75,000!

I say allegedly because it was a "Best Offer" sale so he may have had it listed for $75,000 but took a Best Offer for less. Either way that is his business and kudos to him for acquiring this quarter!

The real question is if our host would agree on the NGC grade of MS69.🤔

Disclaimer! The people in the picture are not the seller. They were at an adjacent booth at the Whitman Coin show in Baltimore. 😎

    Oh! Okay.
    I thought you were talking about the eBay dealer T a z m i c from NJ. ;)

    69 is a lofty grade

No marks should be seen “in hand”

    I’m curious to see it

Nope! I have bought from him with no issues. I would buy again from him without hesitation!😎

A little digging shows that a best offer of $60,000 was accepted for the quarter.

Not sure if it is a true MS-69 as I see a mark on the reverse at around the 8:30 position....

Is this the same dealer that started a CAC service for modern coins?

Unfortunately Ebay completed auctions only show for 90 days. You could try NGC website to see if there are additional photos to what I pasted from PCGS website😎

Not sure but I think his labels are ridiculous for a slabbed coin🙄

I'm not a fan, super tacky, not what I want

WQuarterFreddie What would make this 1 in 2 million minted (much less 1 in 20 million per the ebay listing)? Is it that no other W mint quarters have been certified 69?

  • Jzyskowski1Jzyskowski1 Posts: 6,650 ✭✭✭✭✭

No they only made 2,000,000 of each design

🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶

There were 5 different reverse 2019-W and 5 different reverse 2020-W quarters. Mint made 2 million of each for a total of 20 million W quarters.

This is the only MS69 so far but it was certified by NGC which in my opinion is more forgiving than PCGS and PCGS graded coins bring a higher resale value. 😎

I would be more impressed if it was a PCGS MS69!😉

    Love the "W" Quarters!

The ms 69 W is a rare attraction, indeed.
Even a hard core collector of the 2019/2020 W Quarters, as myself. Would really question the price. It's not even the more demanding Tallgrass Prairie, Weir Farm or the Rockefeller.
However, if I possessed one, I certainly wouldn't complain too much on that astronomical price! :D

WQuarterFreddie: I agree that NGC gives a slight bump higher on modern quarters. I like that PCGS is a bit more critical, my preferred choice.

Yup. The San Antonio W has the most PCGS graded MS68 at 19! This number far exceeds any other W quarter. 😎

    Our Host

    Is King!
    PCGS ;)
Question: How come PCGS doesn't have any price values in 68 and 69 grades, in their price guide? :*

I got blocked as a bidder from this guy for messaging him about the population of one of his coins. Good grief!

Under threat of removal, turn it in!

There was a 2020 P Hjefferson nickel that was holdered at MS69FS

    Caused quite a stir

Not sure what came of it

EDIT: there isn’t a 69 in the pop report and the cert number for the 69 now shows 67+

As far as the above is talking about — the mentioned 2020 nickel

Well then, I guess I will not find a MS69 W quarter in change.... I was hoping I would from change machines... ;) Cheers, RickO

The best I ever found was MS67. I am still looking for the ever elusive MS68!😎

    Thanks for this post. :)
I never knew how scarce an MS69 W quarter is.
Hopefully where there was one, there will be 2. B)

My pleasure! If you review the PCGS Pop Report pages you will see how few MS68 W quarters there are as well.

It's a shame that PCGS did not have the opportunity to grade the coin or maybe they did???😉😂🤣

as coins to be pulled solely from circulation, I'd expect 68s and especially 69s to be exceedingly rare

That is the whole purpose of this thread. To announce that we finally have an MS69 W quarter and it's the only one so far. 😎

I know this is supposed to be about the coin... but since when could common words like SOLO and FINEST be trademarked?

The caveat is that it's not a PCGS69. PCGS is a stricter modern grader.
