The counterfeit die marker I'll call out is that rather large die chip on the reverse about half way up the inside line of the Wheat ear.

You know, I'm starting to think that a lot of these coins show up because somebody found out that they got snaked, and want to unload it

Amazing that this very LOW grade counterfeit has as that many bids on it!
I think the reason even after 100 years of collectors pulling these out of circulation and they're still a few million of them floating around (even genuine ones) means there has to be UNTOLD numbers of fakes setting in THOUSANDS of people's collections!
This amazes me to see as many phonies just on ebay that I've seen this past year!! I bet by the years end we're going to hit the 100 mark.

There is no way will ever know just how many, but I know personally just on ebay of a couple that were pretty desperate to unload one of them, same coin, new user name, same coin but titled differently enough that it wouldn't show up in the normal 09SVDB searches. But, on the other hand we've had a large number of sellers that once they were shown the coin was a phony they gladly took the listing down on their own.

I know, that's was what I was meaning, its been stated that there is more of these counterfeited than there is of the genuine coin! So, how many is in collections around the world after a 100 years? and of the mix of counterfeits and genuine ones still floating around, means that with the counterfeits included is why only 484,000 has turned into MILLIONS (with the phonies)
I do know that I've read in several places that the 1909S-VDB is the MOST counterfeited of ALL US coins!
The altered & counterfeit 09SVDB and 14-D are widely circulated via Estate Sales and flea markets (and ebay)
If it was possible to remove every altered or counterfeited 09SVDB out of every collection that had one, and you could pull every genuine one out that's floating around there would be a LARGE number of collections that couldn't be filled!
Look at just the increase in the number from the altered 09-VDB with an added "S", look at he 09S with an added VDB,
Its mind blowing to think of just how many in total has been added to the circulated numbers!
So the 09SVDB is sort of like condensed soup that's had a LOT of water added to it
