As Veterans Day approaches tomorrow, Thanks to those here who served and who are serving as well as a thankful remembrance to the many others who served before and are no longer with us.

Thanks to all my brothers who served and remember the vow we took to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States. I wish all Americans carried one of these.

The 9th Army Band a/k/a 9th Army "Arctic Warrior" Band has been working for weeks to put together a special tribute for our Veterans that is currently available on their facebook page.

Today they posted "Day 3 of our Veterans Day Video Series."

On Facebook, or simply through Google, enter "9th Army Band" for the multi-day tribute. Scroll down to the Day 3 entry to hear their performance at it is interjected with the comments of various veterans.

Here are photos I took last month as they were preparing for today's tribute:

And pictured below are photos from yesterday evening as the sun set at the same location:

God Bless our Veterans. I know there are many here. Thank you for your service to our great country. You are in our thoughts today. Here is my steel cent, which I am posting to honor their sacrifices both large and small. 🇺🇸

    Fort Sumter Gilmore Medal

I'm a big fan of military medals people wore.

Also called the Fort Sumter Medal, the Gillmore Medal commemorates the men who served in the fighting around Charleston, South Carolina, in 1863 and was presented to all Union soldiers who had served under General Gillmore’s command. The medal was pinned to the front of a military jacket from a swivel with no attached ribbon.

Here is some added trivia that may be of interest to World War II history and or movie buffs:

In the initial post Mighty Mo there in Pearl Harbor can be seen. FWIW here is a screen shot and a photo taken deep in the ship on a lower level known as "Broadway." The "Broadway corridor was used to transport munitions from one end of the ship to the other. Note the suspended overhead rail that was used for the transport.

The screen shot is from the movie "Pearl Harbor" where the location was a stand in for the U.S.S. Arizona as the bombs fell. The photo I took shows the same location.

(Note there is an artifact or "goof" revealed in my screenshot that made it into the final cut. At the left one can see an arm and what appears to be a lighting device being held by a member of the film crew. The "Broadway" passageway is so narrow that the crew member was evidently unable to step off set.)

The screen shot from the movie "Pearl Harbor:"

    And my photo:

Not sure if the VIP tour into the depths of the ship is currently available, but if and when it opens up again I certainly recommend it.

One gets to go down to the "Broadway" level where munitions were transported on a suspended rail extending from one end of the ship to the other. The "Broadway" tier was the shooting location for scenes in the movie "Pearl Harbor" replicating the U.S.S. Arizona as well as the location for the interior battleship shots in a recent Godzilla film.

As an added point of trivia, the producers of "Pearl Harbor" paid millions of dollars to have asbestos removed from the location so they could film there.

These are period medals (not commemorative medals). Manufactured while the U.S. was at war with the Empire of Japan. Actually, made available for purchase 69 days after the December 7, 1941 attack at Pearl Harbor. Used to boost the home front support of the US war effort. Note the date of the periodical that I located.

My research findings from several years back. https://coins.collectors-society.com/wcm/CoinCustomSetView.aspx?s=12054
