Hi guys, as I post. Me and my wife are attending a baby shower. Lol. Yeah, I tagged along too. The parents are opening gifts. Not ONE Silver Eagle or Bullion coin given to the baby/ parents! Shocking.
How many of you guys has ever given the best gift a baby can receive? Thanks. :D

Unfortunately not everyone thinks like us. I think ASEs make good presents. Peace Roy

I gave ASE's for all the births in the family since ASE's started.....They make a great gift and were appreciated by the parents... even though none are collectors. They saw the value of a 'birth year' coin for the child, plus, the beauty of the coin can be appreciated even by non-collectors. Cheers, RickO

Non collectors think, 'what am I supposed to do with this?'.

I think ASEs would be nice as Christmas tree ornaments.

If you give a coin, make sure to give them something they actually asked for or could use, too. If it’s a gift by itself, I would think it would not be a great gift. But I think it would be fine as a bonus to the other part of the gift.

Birthyear proof sets are somewhat popular even among those who don't collect.

Shocking says the person who very easily could have ensured such a gift was given.

    Example:

My Sister's son, Joey. In which, my sister is not a collector. I gave the boy a birthday proof set.

My sister was very happy in receiving it!

Coins make terrible gifts. Just because you like them does not mean the recipients will.

My dad always said cash is king when it comes to gifts.
It's the right color, fits all sizes, and is never returned for a refund.

Save the Silver Eagles for a Birthday present when the kid is old enough to understand the meaning of it. Otherwise you may be looking at your numismatic gift being put in a box with all the other items they don't know what to do with and forgot about in the attic.

All of my coins/sets that I have given as gifts are to a newborns.
I have done this many, many times.
