The overseas crowd doesn’t know how to grade

If it was real (which it clearly isn't from both the appearance of the coin and the holder font), then that would have to be the most inappropriately graded 65+ I have ever seen.

The PCGS Certification number is real.

That’s a very poorly made copy!

Good eye. I posted this in my pre33 goldbugs fb group a few hours ago as well right as the listing came live. I have been featuring a lot of these. It's like playing whackamole. Cert is now tainted.

    Slab Grade: B-
    Coin Grade: F

We have reported it to Ebay and had it taken down w/ help from Jack Young. Please notify me of any similar items in the future if we don't happen to catch it. I'm particularly interested in anything pre33.

Seller had a decent reputation so likely was unaware.

I’m somewhat confused by your post, as the listing was ended by the seller, not taken down by eBay. I had contacted the seller and he said he was going to end the listing, which he subsequently did.

Good catch... and thanks for the screen shot. Glad the seller took it down... Might have been that he did not know. Now I wonder what he will do with it.... Cheers, RickO

When it comes to reporting to Ebay they are worthless. I've reported obvious scams and all Ebay did was send me a message to say they'll investigate. The auctions ran to the end and somebody got screwed in the end.
I bought from some great Ebay sellers but I also called out some shady sellers. A common issue I see is a couple of sellers advertising "Newly Slabbed" of "Freshly Slabbed" when the coin has a pre-2015 NGC label or an ANACS cert# that goes back prior to what they were issuing 2+ years ago. The completely yellow label vs the current yellow-silver-white also is a give away. I hate misleading sellers but unfortunately Ebay has a population of these.

While it’s clear that eBay doesn’t end nearly as many listings as they should, they often do take action.
I’ve been reporting counterfeits and scams for a very long time and don’t recall ever having received replies from eBay. So I’m curious as to what means you’ve been using to make reports, that end up generating replies.

Mark, you must be correct in this case my apologies. Seller took it down before Ebay took action. For honest sellers that don't realize the situation this is a great route.

I had given up a long time ago on reporting fakes because I'd rarely see action taken. However, after working with Jack through backchannels with people in charge of policing this, Ebay actions have been swift and decisive.

Probably over a dozen reported takedowns past couple of months in gold category alone. Truth be told, a lot of simple things can and should be done that I'd like to see changed on the platform regarding seller reputation which I use in my own DD. I've seen known bad sellers (not just in coins) live on that platform for years on end and it's quite frustrating.

The major categories I tend to see are:

    1) 0 rep New seller, no real rep with a quick run and gun.
    2) 10+ rep newer seller who builds up rep buying, then goes to sell an expensive item. (Why doesn't Ebay split buy/sell rep better??)
    3) High rep seller who is hacked and their account is used to shift/mule money unsuspectingly.
    4) High rep seller with a counterfeit who doesn't realize it. Such is the case above and which is why it's good to report to them as well. Unfortunately 9/10 times the answer you get is to sod off.

I've probably missed one or two but off the top of my head these are the main groupings. Most counterfeits tend to come from newer accounts < 1 year old but not always due to 3 and 4 above.

    I appreciate your efforts.

In addition to sending reports to eBay, I often contact the sellers, too. I do that when I think there’s a decent possibility that they’re unaware they’re offering counterfeits. I typically give them a polite head’s up, tell them the coin is counterfeit, that it’s being discussed on a large coin forum and being reported to eBay. I also let them know that legally, they’re entitled to a refund from the person who sold the counterfeit to them.

Sometimes I don’t hear back and other times I receive nasty replies. But in many cases, they ask me how I know and/or tell me they will show it to a local dealer and/or thank me. And I’d estimate that roughly 15%-20% of the time, they end up ending the listing fairly quickly.
