What is Your Opinion About this 1857-S Seated Quarter

I would be glad to hear your opinions about this New Orleans mint quarter.
The pictures accurately reflect the way the coin looks in-hand.
Thank you,

Looks like it's from San Francisco.
Nice coin.
Briggs 1-A or 1-B (not sure which reverse; they seem very similar).
Rim ding, a couple of field dings.... accumulated grunge in devices. Still nice details. Cheers, RickO
XF45 details, might have a light cleaning or other problem lurking. Scarce date in the series, tough to find at that grade level. If it could be certified problem-free, it would be in a PCGS holder already - unless you found it in hiding where knowledgeable numismatists never saw it. Assuming a dealer has it or you got it at a show, value it at a discount over XF price guides due to the assumption that it won't straight-grade.
FWIW, my 1857-S quarter is PCGS XF45, and it looks like it has an old obverse cleaning under the toning, and a tiny reverse rim nick. Here it is for comparison. Sometimes they let the tougher dates slide when the problems are minor.
XF45 details, probably burnished at one time, distracting, if small, ding on the rim. An excellent album coin if the price was right.
I forgot to mention this coin was sold as part of the Norweb Collection in 1988, where I bought it.
It was graded EF 40 If I recall, without mention of cleaning.
It has been in my collection ever since. That explains why it has never been encapsulated.
I like it. Tough coin to find in higher grades. Tougher then most think.
I think it would straight grade.
I don't mind it at all. Is it perfect, no but I wouldn't expect a 160 year old circulated coin to be.
I like it at 45
Its been wiped but there is a lot of device detail.
Tough date, I like it.
Tough date/mm... I also like it at xf45. It could get a pass on the old cleaning/wiping/whatever is going on with the surfaces since there's quite a bit of remaining detail... I like it...

If you bought it in 1988, one can no longer assume it has a problem that precludes a straight grade.
Your purchase predates the post-2000 era where slabbing rare date Seated coins became a big money maker for many dealers. It therefore still has a chance to grade. Like I said, they sometimes let small problems slide on tough Seated issues. Definitely pack that puppy off to PCGS and see what happens. It's a big financial win if it straight-grades. If it comes back Genuine - Cleaned, call up the Norwebs and demand a refund.
If has any mint luster, you might get an AU 50 out of it. Unless the lighter color in the coin's protected areas is mint luster, something has been done to the coin. It very well might be "market acceptable" and straight grade. Being a tough date may help your cause. Only one way to find out.

"Sou Mangueira......."
I like that coin a lot! I can see why some say it's been cleaned. If it was my coin I would definitely submit it just to be sure.
Gonna roll the bones, @Eddi ?
Solid coin for EF40, but "from the picture" one cannot determine it has been cleaned.
Looks like a nice 40, let us know the results if you send it to PCGS Europe.
XF
Probably a light cleaning back in the day when it was a common practice - I would say market acceptable now a days to straight grade.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
It’s a nice example.
I had a 49o quarter I bought raw from a coinshop that straight graded PC40 about 8 years ago with a bigger gouge in the obv rim than yours.
I also think there are still seated coins that are un-submitted to be found in the wild. Fewer, but still.
