1964-D Jefferson Nickel RPM.....or something...maybe

I'm trying to sort out what RPM this is if any. The only diagnostics I could find on variety vista were die scratches. This particular coin has so many deep die scratches that they negate use of them. Inputs appreciated. Thanks

May be slight MD - seems the Mintmark gets thinner around the doubled areas ? - But all I know is when you study coins with that high of magnification you are apt to see all kinds of things that are not true know varieties.

Looks like RPM on page 366 of the CPG. Cheers, RickO
I was hoping that but did not think I was that lucky. It's an NGC 66PL I got raw in some rolls on eBay. I'd share the full sized pics but they're hideous with the PL surfaces and die scratches.
Great Photos, dude.

Considering that a 1964 D/D FS-501 just sold on Heritage for $6000.00, I would send it off to either Dr. James Wiles or PCGS to have the variety authenticated
I was thinking to keep it in NGC plastic to keep the PL. Or would it be best to try to cross it and get attribution at our host first? I'm no nickel expert but it is the most PL nickel I've ever seen so if PCGS does assign PL status to nickels (I only believe there's 1) then this guy has a good a shot as any. The concave strike on nickels though doesn't allow for the reflection to show as clearly as Morgan's for example. Thank you for your inputs.
Yes, you could try sending it off to NGC for the variety authentication and you would not lose the grade. Having said that, I own the only known 1964 D/D RPM 1 Jefferson Nickel that is recognized by NGC. However, it took a trip to Dr. James Wiles for his blessing before NGC gave it a variety plus authentication. The double benefit to sending off my coin to Dr. Wiles was his blessing and the possibility that it may be included in the next Cherry Pickers guide. While this coin will never be for sale just imagine what it might be worth with a Cherry Pickers designation being the only known example at this time.
Love the discovery @mtinis.
I hope that @bombtech25 mission ends with success.

Kennedys are my quest...
It'll find its way to Dr. Wiles and some TPG. I will update you both with the verdict.
