Fee for PCGS Message Board Participation?

If PCGS said that you had to be a current member of the PCGS Collectors Club, or pay a nominal fee, such as $15 a year to participate in these PCGS Message boards, would you still participate?
This would help defray expenses incurred by PCGS to run these Message Boards, including time spent by the Moderators for monitoring these Forums.
PCGS could have a free three month trial membership for newbies, to see if it would be worth their while to join the PCGS Message Boards.

That will go over like a fart in an elevator.
"Why would you give PCGS any bad ideas?" is my opinion
PCGS makes money off this forum.
See the Legend banner Ad?
Positive social media forums like this promote the company.
Maybe PCGS should pay us $15 a year to participate
Lol, they charge outrageous prices to grade coins and take no measures to speed up the process. I think they can provide a social atmosphere to enjoy while we wait.
It would be like charging for CoinFacts, which they did before.
Yikes. Here’s an opinion — poof this thread immediately.

Your idea has merit EXCEPT for the free trial. That just allows the trolls in for free. The one advantage of a members only board is that it keeps the trolls out.
I agree with others here, but if someone wanted to make this work, leave it as is, but add another members only part of the forum to allow those with membership to post without the "free" members seeing it.
Now that I said it out loud... I don't like it.

Message board will bring the people to send coin to PCGS. That’s bad idea to charge for posting and viewing
Ok here's my opinion.

Non members could view, but not post. Like when you read the posts when you're not logged in.
If you get banned, would you get a partial refund for the part of your membership that won't be used? Asking for a friend.

Better yet, all fees for members kicked out within X weeks goes into a pot, and every so often it's a giveaway to members in good standing
Once I make payment I have more "ownership" in my profile. The ability to limit, censor and ban might not be so easy.
Yes, I would pay the annual fee. Especially if it included one CAC sticker per year.
This board is part and parcel of pcgs's brand marketing management. Don't see this as a legitimate revenue stream. In fact, to create obstacles to hobby enjoyment is counterproductive besides such a program being viewed as reinforcing the elisist reputation of the board.
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
You just had to go there, didn't you?
Do you want it on a slab, or just a CAC sticker for your bumper?
What if the coin in the slab was a "C" coin for grade, would he still be entitled to the sticker?
I would react the same way I do to other attempts to charge for online information ... can you guess what that is?
???
I've done that a couple of times with forums I was very dedicated to but the reality is that most people were casual posters and weren't interested in paying for the small number of times they read/post. That would suit some people but it would make this a less interesting place.
I think, on the whole, if I had to pay to participate I probably wouldn't.
An oversized one and for the bumper of course.
I think it would be more likely to backfire than work. Even with a nominal fee, plenty of people would bail and it would hurt the reputation of PCGS. That wouldn't be worth it for PCGS.
Other forums (like CoinTalk) have an optional donation you can make that unlocks a few extra features. It isn't required though to post or do the majority of things on the forum.
dunno how many times I've promoted coinfacts to people
would make no sense for them to do that...they get far more goodwill and advertising money than they would generate through charging for the message board participation...
but, yes, it would be worth some fee
When the day arrives and Uncle Sam decides that PCGS must furnish 1099's on BST transactions. That would be the day to charge $15 for the privilege of utilizing the BST forum for financial gains. The other forums to remain free.
effects:
YN participation
Low budget participation
What about those few times when someone with the first post has something gradeable
I also agree with the elitist view.
Competition with ATS
Why not pay? I do it for other coin forums. It does keep the riff raff out.

I dont think that would be in their best interest or the people who participate here
The board is a shell of what it once was. Why run off more posters?

True
and ebay links are automatically converted to affiliate links(for an account that I assume is PCGS's), unless someone posts them as affiliate links under a different account.
That being said, I would be willing to pay a small fee for these boards, but only because I have already been here several years. I don't think I would as a new member.

This question would have been edgy and provocative - in 2001.
Now it's the equivalent of asking "do you want more flies on that pile of lawn sausage in your yard?"

I never really answered the question. Would I pay ?.....HELL NO. I would lurk and get all the useful info I needed. I will ask now if all the guys buying mint products post an email instead of just requesting a pm, then I’m golden. I would be just fine not posting my dumb ass comments.
No.
Hmm. If PCGS forum premium membership gave me e.g. 1 PCGS submission per year, and some other bennies, I might be interested... but not sure how that would help the boards...
I would, but I think it would turn into just the same people patting each other on the back for posting their new purchases. It might get real boring real fast.
Mr_Spud
Terrible idea.
I think PCGS should pay us, at least the ones who provide regular positive content. This forum is an easy way for them to keep a finger on the pulse of their customers. Other industries pay outside consultants huge money for this data. Our collective input here also hugely promotes their brand.
PCGS needs to focus on the business of grading. They have their interests spread in so many areas that customer service in their primary area of expertise is suffering. They need to keep their eye on the ball.
Would those forum members with alts have to pay for each alt or could they get some kind of group discount?

As long as it is going on his bumper, he can have as many stickers as he wants.
No.
Bad idea.
This is a form of social media, which promotes their company through advertisement, assistance and other forms of advancement. A LOT of experienced people willfully share their knowledge here.
All we ask for is the camaraderie and the opportunity to learn and socialize.
I think that is more than fair.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
