I have not looked at a lot of 1900 double eagles, but this one struck me more than others as the 9 looks more like an 8. Is this common or is this a peculiar variation?

Here is one for comparison.
Looks like a die chip or aggressive die gouge.... Cheers, RickO
There is a lot going on with that 9.
Die chip, wear or what.
Will go with our hosts stating it is a 1900.

Kennedys are my quest...
Undergraded MS-64 and absolutely lovely coin. But leave this coin in its old PCGS holder and you will have a huge hoard of potential buyers wanting to buy this coin whenever you are ready to sell it.
The die chip making this coin look like an 1800 is interesting to look at but not sure if it will increase its value beyond possibly making it even more saleable.
This photo is an eagle, not a double eagle. Easy to tell, compare the hair on her neck.
