Just upgraded surgical loupes. Wow these will help cherrypicking

Just set up some new surgical loupes, wow these are awsome. 3,4 or 5x times mag with built in LED light with multiple setting and just tiny batteries so no cords anymore. A big upgrade. Just looked through a bag of 90% Silver to get used to them and wow
I guess they will also help with cutting teeth out of people's heads, but the coin geek instantly saw the potential for looking through piles of old coins.
Surprised these things are not marketed more towards coin collectors.
An old pair that I often use at home for coins

Surgical loupe, eh? Are you looking for varieties or just tooling them right in?
How much and where to buy?
Orascoptic out of Madison Wisconsin sells them. The LED with multiple magnification for medical are around 5,000. The basic ones measured to your head etc are about 1200. There are knock off companies that sell much cheaper. But when built for your head and eye focal point it is amazing.
Could we get a link please?🤠 Do you want to sell the old ones. PM me a price if so. Thanks 😉

Kudos on spelling "loupe."

Why spend so much when this pair works very well for only $5

Wow... That is expensive... My Zeiss 3x6x9x works just fine for me. I guess if one was examining coins for small details, by the thousands, every day, it would be worthwhile.... Cheers, RickO
More my style and price range.

I can relate to it.

Having worked in health care, and in the surgical setting most of my life, I have always wanted a pair and even been on the lookout for them in thrift stores and places they might end up- unrecognized- for a song.
This is what ai settled for, after pricing the “real” ones, and never finding any during my thrift store forays, I settled for some primitive spin offs. These, from Harbor Freight aren’t too bad, and I’ve even used them for minor medical procedures at home (splinters and stich removing). I especially like the ones that fit onto my eyeglasses.
I got them primarily for cleaning (conservation on) ancients and roll searching to a lesser extent.
They’ve really come in handy since the pandemic- since I’ve moved to the outskirts and just getting into a provider is a several month wait in some cases.

nwcoast. Any link. Those are nice as the op’s are. They are just a little out of my reach. Thanks 🤠

I still have the original pair I was fitted for in 1992 when I started my surgical residency program- take care of them and they last forever.
They have a bunch of different types.
Go to this website and search on their home page using the word “magnifier”
Most are in store purchases only though.
Though mine are sufficient for minor at home medical procedures and coin roll hunting, I still want some really nice ones. Zeiss would be nice ;-)

I can just imagine a bunch of collectors walking around a bourse bumping into each other wearing these. And dealers refusing to show them coins.

If you want to be a successful cherrypicker you have to be at least somewhat subtle about it. These are anything but subtle.
I actually have a pair of these. They actually work pretty good, you choose your desired magnification. But they are heavy and uncomfortable on your nose so I don’t use them much. If you already have them for work, then cool - nice for viewing your own coins.
I don't think they are cost effective to buy for coins only.
I have a stereo microscope which is great for viewing coins; no complications from motion.
For buying coins, yeah the dealer is likely to take a second look....
I most certainly don’t wear my contraptions at coin shows and a conventional 5 or 10x loupe is my only aide in that setting. Lol :-)
To be honest, the ones I clip to my glasses are the ones I use most as the head band unit is a bit much.
