As its the Season for Ghosts - Welcome to the Haunted Carson City Mint

1northcoin1northcoin Posts: 4,486 ✭✭✭✭✭

Pictured first is the "Haunted" [Governor's] Mansion" as it is presently decorated:

(If tradition holds and the Governor has sufficiently recovered from his auto accident injuries of earlier this week, there will be treats handed out here on Halloween night.)

FWIW the place is just blocks away from the site of the historic Carson City Mint building which itself is claimed to be haunted as chronicled below.

Not to mention the "Ghost Town" that resides in the basement of the building:

And even the preservation to today of the original Coin Press upstairs is somewhat haunting:

Great pictures and interesting story....I have not been to Carson City.... Was going to go - twice - and got sidetracked. Still on my list. If I get to the mint, I will ask to be allowed to stay overnight...Always wanted to meet a ghost. :D Cheers, RickO

Halloween is also "Nevada Day" (Oct. 31st) and is a state holiday. It is tradition that the Governor hands out candy on the Governor's mansion steps. The mansion is located in the old part of town and all the vintage Victorian houses and old western homes are fully decorated. Halloween night is quite crowded and everyone has a good time. My family has been going there for half a century. Take care...

I wonder if the coin press will turn itself on like the lights do. Leave a silver dollar planchet there overnight and see if a Morgan pops out in the morning.

Thanks for sharing that. If I recall correctly I was still in elementary school when I visited one of my relatives there in the Governor's Mansion who was acting as the governess for the Governor's daughter. I know she also accompanied the family when they traveled out of the country for what I believe was a Governors Conference being held in Puerto Rico.

It was a pretty memorable experience for me as a child to get to go inside the mansion.

(As an after thought, ironically, years later I had a background character role on a Halloween themed episode of Hawaii Five-0 that involved a Mansion Halloween Party - although the set for that was a mansion on Oahu and my part was as a "Costumed Party Guest with Upscale Car." My starring moment in the show, apart from being background at the party itself, was a scene where I stepped out of the Party Bus that took the guests from the parking area to the mansion.)

Pictured, my "upscale car" , the Mercedes parked next to the victims BMW as discovered by the Hawaii Five-0 Task members Danno and McGarrett.

And my character (pictured left) at the Haunted Oahu Mansion:
