Half in jest, but anyone have any superstitions good or bad when going to a coin show?

It'd bad luck for me to bring lots of cash because no matter how much I bring, it all gets spent.

Somehow, the more cash I bring, the less I spend lol :D

Absolutely the worst thing to bring on a fishing boat is a banana.

    Horrible form.

    Plus bananas are gross.

PS: I do not believe in luck.

A Redbook in one’s hand readily seen by dealers.

I remember a newbie at a winter FUN show and and we had agreed to meet at the show. She had one in hand and I strongly advised her to keep it in her bag (and explained why).

My wife would be the misfortune, but my oldest daughter is Lady Luck when it comes to shows. She can go in and cherrypick and has found some incredible rarities for a pittance.

You reminded me of a great AK Halibut trip story.

Son and I fishing with a local Salmon Lodge owner, who traded guided trips, with the Halibut guy. When we approached the boat we were asked if we had any bananas or yellow cigarette lighters.

Lodge owner told them to go f*ck themselves as that was ignorant bs that hurt everyone. Shipped over 150lb of filets home.

Number one is a want list. If you keep it in your pocket prices go up 30% and if a dealer sees it they double.

Number two is a CDN. Nothing will be less than bid.

Number three is a high power glass. You'll never see anything and no one will show you something that needs it.

It's also bad luck to take anything to sell unless it's slabbed and popular and you got it cheap. Selling at shows is for dealers.

I agree with you 100%. I do not believe it luck.

Back to bananas and fishing, it is not a superstition, it is a fact, that a banana will reduce fish counts on fishing boats.

Never heard about the banana deal but I'm guessing then this guy will either have very bad luck or never catch a fish again..................or both!

A friend who sets up brought 2 strippers (he seeing) one time. Not what I would recommend.

I think in convo / show image keep it G rated and convo should be focused on coins, paper money, numismatics. Don’t trash out other players. As far as a wife that’s your call many have their wives who help them at their table.

OMG, LMAO. Two of you seem to Not to find humor in me contradicting myself on perhaps >:)

I absolutely do not believe in luck.

It is bad form to bring a banana on a boat in respect to other fisherman for one.

Then there is THIS ...stories of bananas bringing bad luck can be traced back to the 1700’s, when sailing ships carrying bananas hurried to deliver their cargo before it spoiled. The ships moved so quickly that crew members trolling for fish off the stern seldom caught anything. A more passable answer is that unlike the scents of garlic, worms and shrimp, all of which attract fish, the smell of bananas wards them away. And since most fishermen don’t wash their hands after eating bananas or anything else, the banana oil rubs off and on to the bait as it is hooked.

And THIS ...One reason could be that Bananas are naturally sweet and sticky, and they also release ethylene gas which some believe that acts as a natural fish repellent. Along with Bananas on board the boats being fish repellant they also have been said to cause mechanical issues on well-maintained vessels.

And THIS ... Bananas float, so after a ship sinks that is all the rescuers find.

A Cherrypicker's Guide. That can result in some pretty rough treatment from dealers who don't like cherrypickers. I carry everything in my head so I don't have to worry about it.

A snooty attitude can be really bad at a coin show, or anywhere for that matter.

But speaking of fishing , bad luck and such: I'm reminded of the one that nearly got away.

Guy out fishing in a boat comes back to shore with boatload of fish. A fellow fishing from shore saw him dock and unload. Astounded at the day's catch , he asked if he could learn to catch fish like that.
The man on the boat told him to meet early in the morning and he will teach him.
Early the next day they meet and get out on the boat. The skipper opens a cooler , removed a stick of dynamite, lights fuse and tosses it in the water. Boom... a bunch of fish float to the surface of the lake.
About that time, the shore fisherman , shocked, tells the boat owner that this is not legal. Just as the boat owner lit another stick. He handed it to the objector and asked: " are you going to fish or are you going to talk ?
