Which City had the Greatest Starting Rotation?

craig44craig44 Posts: 10,524 ✭✭✭✭✭

Lets keep this one with players who played the bulk or a large portion of their career with the team, not a one or two-year wonder. 4 man rotation. post 1900

there are a number of great options. The Braves, Dodgers, Red Sox come to mind.

Here is my home town teams starting 4 in my opinion:

Clemens
Pedro
Lefty Grove
Cy Young

a couple modern, a couple old timers.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

90s Bravos rotation is hard to beat on it's own.

that is very true. For the Braves, you could have Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz and add in Warren Spahn. that would give them two righties and two lefties.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Does Ed Lopat or Red Ruffing make the Yankees starting 4? Clearly both are strong candidates

oh, that would be a great one, maybe the best, but you are not getting much out of Pedro when he pitched for the dodgers.

I may replace with Hershiser or Sutton or maybe even Fernando

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

A while back in San Diego, Mark Prior and Barry Zito were in the same HIGH SCHOOL starting rotation...

Now that is interesting info. must have been a team all high schoolers in the district hated to face. 2 future MLBers in one rotation. I think i may have showed up for the game with a pulled hamstring that day.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

    NY Yankees

    Lefty Gomez
    Whitey Ford
    Mel Stottlemyre
    Ron Guidry

Guidry could be replaced with Waite Hoyt, Allie Reynolds, Andy Pettitte or Red Ruffing. I’m just partial to the Gator…

Mel was fantastic; he just pitched for the Yankees at the exact wrong time.

I was lucky enough to meet Whitey Ford a few years before he died. in our short exchange he was very personable and nothing but a gentleman.

    a great pitcher for sure.

Whitey Ford is a massively underrated pitcher with the lowest career ERA of any starting pitcher who has already finished their career in the modern era (2.75).

Among active players, Kershaw and DeGrom have produced lower career ERAs. Depends on how long each guy pitches but Jake only has 8 seasons pitched and is 33. Kershaw is around the same age and has 14 seasons booked.
