Doesn't the PCGS page explain it?

It sure doesn’t. My guess is it is a list of coins and the value of all the coins in the list make up the pcgs3000 price?? 🤷‍♂️

I never paid much attention to this index since the coins don't reflect what most of us can actually afford to collect.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

    "PCGS 3000 Index

The folks at the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) put together an index of 3,000 rare coins and release a monthly report. The report reflects an increase or decrease in value for the 3,000 rare coins listed in the index each month."

    It's like the S&P500 of U.S. coins.

Thanks. It didn't make sense that 3,000 "rare" coins could have a value of 62,165.28. What makes more sense is that it's the total value of all the coins movement up or down. So, this month the valuation of all 3,000 coins went up $62,165.

    Makes sense.

    Your understanding is not correct.
The index started at 1000 in 1970. 62k is the current index value.
Just like many price indices start at 100 in 1945.
Their use of $ may be confusing.
The idea is that you have a share of the full portfolio of 3000 coins. You do not have a 100% share.
The page below may be more helpful.

There is s list of every coin that makes up the PCGS 3000, right? I remember seeing it somewhere.

A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.

As a like to see it all on one page analyst it’s like an overview of the US Coin Market. Each sector is complex in its own way.

Take a look at the detail list and you will get a better feel. I like to reset the graph to lol at it over different periods of time.

It gives me a good big picture view. Look at the trend line from 94 to present.
