PCGS has graded 210,600 clad Proof Quarters: 1968- 1998

Yet only three in PR70 for the complete twenty-year run. (Yes, many others in CAM and DCAM designation, but that's not the point.)
This is the lone 1984-S PR70.
1984 was a particular year for me, as it was when I graduated college (BYU).
I have been hunting high and low for this single example for the last 40 years, and today I finally located it.

Congrats on finding it.
1984 was good to me too, saw my future wife for the first time in HS Freshman year, and of course the Van Halen album!
Fantastic - Excellent story, Excellent coin, Excellent price!!!!!!!!!!
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Interesting. Looks DCAM and was listed as such.
Congrats man!!!
Sure its a good feeeling!

I think its a "mechanical error: missing the DCAM on the label but it that makes you happy - go for it!

Its probably cameo just not designated isn't it ?
Congratulations on finding and acquiring your Holy Grail. Price looks like a steal, although I know little of pricing on these.
The first thing that I wondered is if the total of the coins or the grading fees are worth more.
A very nice pickup.
Glad you can give it a loving home.

Just like that Arby's commercial:
"We lay it on THICK".
Man, that's a nice coin.

First, I am back in CA now, so let’s start penciling in possible dates for our dinner. Send me a PM with your schedule. I suggest we meet up at “Sonny’s” Italian restaurant here in SC. A legend in the hometown of Richard Nixon! 20:15 tonight work? I get excited just thinking about it! 😆
Second… as you hunted for the past 40 years, why exactly did you want this coin and not, for example, the deepest MONSTER DCAM you could find for the date? I think folks would love to understand “what makes you tick”. Also, during the 40 year hunt, were you hoping the coin was a highly unusual specimen with no cameo contrast whatsoever, or did it not matter to you that it could have been / was simply a coin possibly graded at the time PCGS did not recognize cameo on a proof coin? Is it of equal “unicorn” status even if this coin is a DCAM in actuality, but you were simply seeking simply an older label that failed to recognize the designation at the time for example. Again, “what makes you tick” about the hunt of locating the only 1984 quarter without a DCAM designation? And, congratulations for fulfilling your quest! 😊

I love PCGS LowBall coins, but I love me PCGS 70 single POP coins even more.

As a proof collector myself, I know the thrill of finding the one special coin, but this one has me confused. Despite the PR-70 label, it is obviously a DCAM and not a brilliant proof. The current population of 84-S in PR-70 DCAM is 753. Obviously, a non-cameo proof from this era would be quite a find, but this just looks like a label error to me.

I think it was likely graded before they gave CAM/DCAM designations to post 1970 coins.
That arbitrary cutoff date never made sense to me.
