Toning Question

Can someone tell me what kind of toning this coin has? I just bought it and really love it because of the dual side toning. The front has the rim toned and back looks about 80-85% completely toned, I don't know how to post a picture but the cert# is NGC : 6266175-014 MS 63

No picture makes it pretty hard to give an opinion on how something looks…

Yes I can imagine, this is why I included the cert# to aid in my question.

It appears to be album toned and, honestly, removed just in time as longer exposure may cause a terminal appearance that would prevent many collectors from desiring the coin.

Agree with album toning (which I like) but I'm not a fan of the coin given very distracting scuff marks on the obverse.

Thank you all for the insight. I've heard people talk about different kinds of toning but all I could Google would show is "monster" tone examples.

For those in the know, if this was in an album would your opinion be that the obverse was facing out rather than the reverse or vice versa? I looked at an old Whitman folder of Roosevelt Dimes that a co-worker recently brought in and the heavily toned side of the coin was the obverse side that was facing out with the reverse being relatively untoned.

    For those in the know

an album is different from a folder. with an album, both sides can be viewed but are behind a plastic slide, a folder has the coin pushed into a hole with one side exposed as you stated, the other completely hidden.

Thanks for your informative response. I’d always lumped Dansco albums and Whitman folders together as one in the same in my mind when thinking about album toning. That explanation makes sense.

In all these years of coin collecting I've never seen a Whitman Morgan folder. I still have my original Whitman cent, nickel, and quarter holders with the 29 Cent price tag on them!
