Just received my 2021 Limited Edition Proof Set - Mint Packaging/UPS Strikes Again - **Box Opened**

Not sure why packaging and delivering coins intact is such a difficult task for the Mint. This abomination was just "dropped" on my front porch (hit and run). This is what one gets when paying for UPS Next Day Air. I can hear loose items in the box but wanted to keep it "sealed" in case I decided to send it in for encapsulation:
Any suggestions/recommendations?
Tim

I am sorry that this happened to you.
If PCGS considers this box to be opened, you would not be eligible for the L.E. proof set designation (e.g., 899974).
If this is important to you, I would call PCGS CS. When you get a rep on the line, direct them to this thread. After they have reviewed your images, ask them if PCGS would consider this box to be "unopened".
When I got my 2020 the delivery box wasn't open but the dime was loose inside. Popped right into my hand when I opened the box. I was not very happy about that. Soaked the dime in acetone for a while. A year later no fingerprints yet so hopefully I dodged a bullet. I decided not to get a 2021 set.
I think there's a good chance that PCGS would consider it opened. If the label designation is important to you I would consider sending it back and either chalk it up to bad luck or hope more become available later.
Thanks @MetroD and @TurtleCat. I decided to open the box after all. The loose coin was the dime in its capsule.
Once I put the dime in its slot and examined the coins, I thought there was a mark on the Type 1 ASE (lower left between the T and Y in LIBERTY:
However and upon further review, the defect was on the inside of the capsule and the coin itself looks perfect:
So in the end, I have a nice set which can never be sent in for grading. Maybe next time.

That really s***s.

All in all not bad. I would be very upset and very grateful. I have commented on this very thing. I find it an unusual relationship to navigate . Paying and praying every order seems wrong 😑

Thanks guys. What we get is what we got. I still like the set and will hold onto it - just wish I hadn't paid the premium for Next Day Air only to get a damaged box. I managed Distribution Centers for 30+ years and always knew the carriers were an extension of our company in the eyes of our customers.

I haven't used UPS in years for the same reason. Had coins stolen, packages damaged, a driver who lied ....said he attempted a delivery ha! Both the wife and I were home, and a 75 lb Dalmatian was at the full view front door watching.
How many people you think walked up my lawn to my storm door....and the dog didn't bark?
I have actually told companies that I wanted to do business if they didnt ship by Fedex and or USPS I find my needs elsewhere. Imagine stealing and the company had other complaints on a driver....and they make the customer the victim and not the thief!
I do without before I ever use usp! The pits! In customer service!

While I don't disagree with you regarding UPS, the Mint packaging has to take a share of the blame. The carton rattled like a cracker jack box. Everyone on this forum understands the importance of sufficient void fill. It is clear to me this carton was under a stack of 70# boxes which resulted in the burst corner.
Pinehurst and other big companies will have replacement boxes for sale. I have had to hunt packaging before. $10-$15 is average for multi coin sets. Others may have a way for you to get replacement. The forum has mighty powers of goodness

The fact remains that the drivers do know whats in these boxes....perhaps not exactly ,but know they come from the mint. Thus have money in them....my case was coins purchased from the Treasury of Texas . From safety deposit box that was drilled, and contents sold.
I known several drivers from usps as well fedex and yeah like I said they may not know exactly but they know its valuable or money.
However will agree that one would believe that the mint would want it as generic packages as possible.

loose coins and loose capsules has been an ongoing problem for years
Still processing on my order, even though I, too, paid for next day shipping. I wanted this set for my first kid, so included the 2021 Proof set, too. I wonder if the two together are the cause for this delay. 🤔
I originally thought I'd keep the sets in the original government packaging, as I didn't think the LE Silver Proof set was eligible for any sort of FS. Have I prevented myself from obtaining such a designation by adding the regular Proof set to the order? Does the LE Silver Proof set need to be in the original, unopened shipping package in order to get that label? Would be great if there was also some sort of oversized holder that could display all the LESP coins together - one that could be displayed next to the regular proof set. Anyone know about that?
I've never experience a packaging issue from the Mint (knock wood...) I usually just have items ship first class, standard.
It's slow but it gets here..
It is. Examples of the 'LE Silver Proof Set' + FS designation:
~ Proof-W (T1) ASE: 889974
~ Proof-S Kennedy Half Dollar: 889971
To get the 'LE Silver Proof Set' designation, yes. This is the case as each coin in this set was issued earlier this year in different packaging. For example, the dime, the quarters, and the half were included in 21RH.
I would be most upset receiving damaged packages. However, over these many years, I have not received such damage from the USPS, UPS or Fedex....Just lucky I guess. Cheers, RickO
I just got my package yesterday and most coins were loose from their spot and Type 2 was out of capsule...first time receiving package like that, but not surprised after reading other posts. Still a nice set.
No scratches on the type 2? Lucky. I am not happy with this. They know better.

Why can't they be sent in for grading?
Not grading exactly but in this case potentially without the "limited edition" label.
Thanks @TurtleCat - I should have been more specific. They can never be graded as an LE set now.

The box is too big for this set.
Way too large. I should also add, the green sealed air dunnage in the pictures looks great but over 50% of the "pockets" had no air in them. Might as well have been wrapped in toilet paper.
I didnt even get the half aired up pockets...just brown paper!
