Sept 2021 Long Beach Expo report w/pics

Left Seattle very early (7am!) on Thursday, and flew down to CA to attend the Long Beach show. Spent two full days at the show, and really enjoyed myself. It had been quite a while since I attended a live show, and it was fun to wander around and reconnect with some dealers/friends.

Thursday was VERY busy to say the least…Friday, not nearly as much. I was a bit disappointed with the number of empty tables in the hall (maybe 10%). Looks like a fair number of dealers bailed. Understandable, I guess. But other than that, it was a total blast.

What did I buy? Not a damn thing!

I looked for upgrades to my PCGS VF Barber quarter set, but found very little in that area. I also kept my eyes open for low grade PCGS gold, and colorful PCGS Proof 66 Mercury dimes. Pretty much struck out.

I did see a beautifully toned PCGS MS66+ 1917 Type 1 SLQ. I bargained hard for it, but the dealer wanted $400 more than I was willing to pay.

While I left empty handed, I still enjoyed the two days immensely. The beer was great too!

Here’s a few pics to give you a flavor of the show.

Dave

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

Couldn’t you include more photos in your report? (Just kidding, lol).

    Great report! Thanks!

WOW!! Great report. That photo of Mike's Coin Chest show case is off the charts. I have bought a few coins from Shaun Bobb. He has top of the line gold (along with his usual Morgans and Peace Dollars). As a gold collector I also enjoyed your many other photos of slabbed and raw gold.

You had me at the first photo. Looks like a very tasty treat. Thanks for the effort and time you put into this.

WOW!! Great report and great pictures..... Super amount of gold there... I am amazed at that picture of the piles of 2x2's at 3 bucks each or 50 for $100.... Never saw a table like that before. Nice beer too ... :D Sure makes me miss going to shows. Cheers, RickO

Great report! Looks all those $3 coins are in fresh 2x2’s. I can’t even imagine the stapler-cramp.

If I “bargained hard” means I would have wanted it. That is a fairly expensive coin so $400 in unbacked green slips or paper seems like that was negotiation for sport. I would have paid it.

Thanks for paying my admission fee to the show. lol ;)
I keep going back to re-look at the coins available from the many dealers.
    Your pictures are beyond fantastic.
Love that I could zoom in and see the listed prices of individual coins.
I would still be at the $3.00 table going thru as much as I could.

$~500 to $1800 plus for unusually toned silver eagle in not so special grades. I was carrying the wrong inventory, apparently.

Wonderful photos Dave. They really make us feel like we are right there with you. I haven't been to a coin show in several years now, but living in LA I fondly remember attending several Long Beach shows back in the 20th Century. A picture is worth a thousand words so thanks for bringing back those memories.

I never thought that growing old would happen so fast.

Sorry @gumby1234. I don’t quite remember who had those ASEs. Maybe another member will know, and chip in.

    @Tibor - No, Todd wasn’t there. 😢

@Dave99B thanks. The few times I've seen Todd he had an impressive inventory of those.

They definitely looked artificial or gassed in the holders, the prices for non-70 ASE's were crazy at that table!
