~ Copper 4 The Weekend™ ~

It's been a couple years since I started one of these.
So here it goes... Post em if you got em?
1872 Ulysses S. Grant - Presidential Campaign, DeWitt-USG 1872-4, Copper, 28 mm Diameter.
One of my pandemic era acquisition additions to my political campaign medals. This second term 1872 Grant issue is scarce in all metal types especially in copper as it's more so seen in white metal. Dies cut and struck by William H. Key in Philadelphia this the only campaign medal issued which features Vice President Henry Wilson. Due to a scandal the Republicans nominated nominated Senator Henry Wilson from Massachusetts for vice-president instead of the 1868 incumbent Schuyler Colfax. The example seen here betters the only one John Ford had formally from Wayte Raymond.

I thought this was a 2 cent piece. Here's some copper.
1850's New York Theodore Bollenhagen & Co. NGC MS66
Super hard to image through the holder when the fields are so reflective and size of a dime.
But…. Oh so gemmy and beautiful

This also is super hard to image from the reflective fields. But outrageous in hand. Reminds me of the pattern Double Eagles

I believe the copper is not known in the token catalog.
And, have not found one that has sold in copper with this particular
mule before. I think but not sure CRO sold one 6-12 months back but not sure.

Yeah CRO had a brass example months ago. The NY section is a bit rocky as I think you got to skim back and forth on a few pages. I know this mule variety is listed just as a line non plated item.

This one IIRC, is ex-coins are fun. I need to reshoot it and capture the colors better.

One more and I’ll stop hogging the thread

I still can’t get over that our US mint actually came out with this one in 1973
It’s a super nice design in bronze. They also made it in silver.
