Hello everyone. I'm a multi-decade lurker that tends to accumulate coins instead of collecting them, but I'm trying to change my buying habits. I recently purchased a classic Carver-Washington Commemorative with it's original gift card and envelope from a local auction house. The coin purchase was not out of the ordinary for me, but the additional papers included caused a thoughtful pause. I had never seen OG cards or material included with any of my previous purchases and I was curious if most of these were tossed aside. I'd like to hear your thoughts and I would enjoy seeing your older commemoratives that include their original cases, papers or envelopes.

These are the auction house photos - not mine.

I’m surprised anyone would throw out original packaging..

(throws out massive amounts of modern original packaging)

Original packaging like that adds great interest. Most original packaging was probably thrown out long ago. An interesting and colorful item!

I've seen a couple like that through the years. One I think held multiple coins, if I recall correctly.

@Smudge_Pot .... Welcome aboard... Nice pictures. Many of those coins were given to people who were not coin collectors, and the original packaging was discarded. Others just lost it along the way. Many collectors prize the original packaging. Have fun, Cheers, RickO

I'm a big fan of coins in their mailers

  • Thanks everyone for great examples I've never seen before. As a slight history buff, the original context of older releases could focus my collecting in a direction I'd likely more appreciate.

    Delaware commemorative coin items.

    Folder of issue.

Swedish 2 krona commemorative coin that was issued at the same time.

    Program book for the ceremony.

Delaware Half Dollar design shown in the program book. It was not the same.

I have a lot more, but you have probably seen enough already.

Actually Bill, I find all your examples fascinating and exactly what I was hoping to see! More is good! I'm trying to find a focus for collecting and these dormant Commemoratives in context are what I am looking for.
