Can anyone help me identify this???

My wife's family found this coin laying in there corn field after the farmer tilled. I believe it's some type of Spanish coin and obviously not worth anything, but they asked me if I knew what it was and I don't so I'm hoping someone here might. They more just want to know for curiosity sake.
Can anyone help?

You've got the reverse upside down. Instead of this:

Lance.
Can we get a picture of both sides as for us less knowledgeable people?

Neat find... I cannot help with any detail, but old silver is a great find..... Must be from an area with colonial history. Cheers, RickO

It could be a couple of different dates, and here are the possibilities:

Nice find and further evidence of how widespread Spanish and other foreign colonial coinage was used in the colonies and in our early years as a country. It looks much better than the 1782 Mexican Real my grandfather found in his garden on Long Island. That coin is holed and shows only the date and "C" (Carolus) on one side and the coat of arms on the other.
I have a friend who found several 2-real wedges of pieces of eight, (where the expression "2-bits" comes from) while metal detecting in fields in eastern Maryland. These coins are scattered all over the original 13 states.
I think it’s worth a lot. May not monetary value but coolness value.
