Half is a hefty reward
Keeping their mouth shut would have been a better reward.

European countries have some stiff penalties for hiding found historical items, especially England. Imagine trying to sell these type gold coins, when most dealers would want, at least, some info about them. A lot of risk, but it seems that France, unlike what I have read about England, has a very fair practice regarding value ownership of found items. In this instance, anyway.

I stand corrected. I looked up a buried Roman Chariot that was found in England several years ago and was ruled this week as an historical treasure and was to be divided between the finder and the land owner. So, England, I apologize. Amazing how many articles I have read in the past about how unfair England law was to gold finders.

At the present moment, there are approximately 8,000 people planning to sneak in there with metal detectors after midnight - dressed like ninjas, of course. Bigouden, France hasn't seen an invasion of this scale since WW2.
So many casual thieves on this forum...
