Is it a coin currently for sale by an unknown auction consignor? Did you just cost another Forum member $50 because you had a chance to snark off?
Will the PVC rinse off (with what?) or will it take a full (or diluted) acid (which acid?) dip to clean up to a 66 or better?
With today's masking issues, are these two true-blue Americans patriots or just epi-centers?
Is this a crisis or an opportunity?

While I feel this is an attempt at trolling...since you love to apply that descriptor. I will ask you this! Have you ever seen a coin most likely entombed in a slab for more than 30 years with that much PVC conserve? Much less a proof???

That is a heart breaking coin. Such a beautiful coin that has deteriorated to this point is so sad. Unbelievable to have a bid on it. I wish it had been better taken care of. JMO

@CaptHenway You may be onto something new. Instead of CAC for nice coins you could sticker coins with a GACK for coins not worthy of the grade or with problems.

I agree Frank ...I took in trade a Morgan it was graded by NGC at a 64 with a * + !
Itbhad IMHO the most unattractive toning as well a damn thumb print in the ulgy toning! Yet because of the star and plus on the slab.
It reminded me of the old saying "never buy a car made on a Monday or Friday"......as whom ever graded the coin and gave the final pass must of been smokin something!
And I took it in trade as I knew without a doupt it sell because of * and +.
It sold the 1st week I had it.
Not a coin I would be considering.... Though I speculate it could be improved with proper techniques. I just prefer not to spend money on problem coins. Cheers, RickO
I am very picky when it comes to Proofs of this vintage. Usually it takes one in the PR-65 or better range to make me happy. That has been especially true for 1936-7 Buffalo Nickels. The “worst one” I have owned a PR-66. The lower grade ones simply had too much wrong with them for me.

At the risk of turning a numismaticly morbid thread into an educational one, I doubt that that’s PVC or snot damage. More likely, I think, the coin was heavily spotted, conserved, and then slabbed. But some removed spots have a way of coming back to haunt a coin for eternity.

PCGS didn’t offer conservation services back then. I think that someone cleaned it as best they could, and that the coin didn’t look quite as bad when it was submitted. But I could be wrong.

@MrEureka Also note that those old rattlers were much more loosely put together than todays slabs so maybe environmental damage from however it was stored?? Just thinking aloud here I could be way off base.

PR64 is not a great grade and 1936 is a difficult year. Some would not be willing to spend 2-3 times as much for a nice one.
A lightly hairlined PR62/63 would be a better and more attractive option IMO.
Hairlines lower the grade more than spots, unless the spots are bad. Hairlines imply cleaning or mishandling. Original surfaces mean a lot for Proof coins of this vintage.
