Three tornados within 10 minutes of me yesterday.
The National Weather Service has confirmed three small tornadoes touched down in Massachusetts Monday.
.
All EF-0's, but unusual for "Boston".

Yikes.... I have seen the effects of tornado's... up close... and they are horrific. Glad you are OK @1630Boston. Cheers, RickO
Tornados in Massachusetts?
What is this world coming to?!
Be safe everyone!
They were so minor that most people didn't even realize they happened. F0 is pretty small. But a scary thought that worse could come through someday.

My daughter and son in-law live in Douglas.

Very scary getting the weather alerts on my cell phone.

Kennedys are my quest...
Son and daughter-in-law live out in Framingham, better give him a quick call to see how it went there. Stay well, hope you didn't sustain any damage.

Time to move to Florida to get the farthest away from New England hurricanes.
Scary.
Pete
@BuffaloIronTail We haven't had a real hurricane up here since the early 90's. We used to get quite a few and would have windows taped up in the house and be hunkered down in the basement with candles and some food. I do think Florida gets more Hurricanes than we do here in New England and with the way Florida is so flat they get more damage and flooding. New England seems to be one of the safest areas to live in the US. We don't get volcanic activity, earthquakes, wildfire season or mudslide season like California every year. Not much for tornado and not much for hurricanes lately.

Glad to hear that you are safe.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
One of my daughters lives in Oklahoma. I was visiting when the big one in Norman hit. Unbelievable the wind and rain and we were 25 miles away.
I have been unlucky enough to have been directly affected by three tornados EF1 and above. Believe me, even a hit from an EF0 can really wreck your day.
The building codes in Florida take the forces from hurricanes into consideration and utilities are buried underground in most residential areas. Do you ever get blizzards with heavy snow loads in New England?

Glad to hear no one was hurt....we been having more torando watches and warnings the last was July 29 this year.
And yesterday was 10 years since the earthquake in Va. That hit in DC and Maryland.
The National Cathedral in George Town is still believed it or not being worked on to fix the stone work caused by the quake!
BTW if you have never been to this shrine you need to visit it ...if ever in the area.
A friend was visiting the National zoo the day of the quake with a group of younger school children.
You know when You go to the zoo half the animals are asleep esspecially the big cats.
Well she said yeah everything was pretty much that way until 5 minuite before the quake hit.
She said out of no where all the animals began to cry, and howl, pace fast in their cages.
She said it was really strange....its was with out a doupt the quake was going to hit.
As the ground started to move of course she was concerned about the kids....but she said thats when all the animals went bat crap crazy.... she it was like a movie and she truly didnt want any parts of.
I was just about to make lunch as my dogs who had not been out since 5 am wouldn't go out to walk. Both dogs were like hell no ....we're staying right here.
I watched a 3lb jar of peanut butter dance on the table and hit the floor.....the jelly soon followed. I knew wnat was going on as I had been in two other quakes in my time.

Yes we get blizzards with some heavy snow at times. That is much better than those other natural disasters @PerryHall

I vividly remember watching an f4 tornado form from my porch in 2009 in Murfreesboro TN. My wife and I were watching the weather, and they showed possible formation in our area. I stepped out onto the porch and saw it circling and start to lower, as houses started sucking up into it. Our power shut off right as I was yelling to my wife to find a safe spot. It ended up coming as close as a half mile to our house. It ended up only killing two people amazingly, as it carved a 23 mile path through the city, and completely flattened many homes. I literally had nightmares about tornadoes for several years after that.

@jwitten scary stuff

Yesterday there were three water spouts on the Gulf Coast of Florida, off of Pinellas County. About 20 minutes from me. Neat stuff. They are water spouts when they form over water but when they make landfall (if they do) then they are called tornadoes.

That’s pretty crazy to see up here in Mass. I worked for 2 days searching houses when the tornado hit the Springfield area on June 1, 2011. Something I hope I never have to do again during my career.
In 2000-something, my wife and I flew to Boston then rented a car and spent 2 days walking the Brimfield Antique (and probably random coin) shows. A storm passed over and they folded up the tents for a hail warning, which never really materialized locally.
However we saw all kinds of pelted cars around the next day, and turns out a tornado had touched down one valley over from the shows.
Fun time though.
The shitty thing is we had a tornado here last night with no tornado watch or even a warning. The only damage we got was a large branch down in the backyard and it just missed the house and the fence. Have most of it cleaned up already.
I would have given anything to be 10 minutes away instead of the less than 50 yards away from the mini-twister that went through my place about 30 years ago. I guess they can happen anywhere. My close encounter was in Southern California. I was outside and I heard what sounded liked a giant #2 wooden pencil being cracked.....it was a huge tree that cracked....then the the roar of a jet engine. Things started flying through the air. My first thought was to get under my truck..... but before I could do it the truck started bouncing up and down off the ground and then the windows blew out and the camper shell went flying through the air. Then I saw it. A little tornado. I hugged a tree for dear life and it passed right by me. It was gone in a few seconds (10-15?). After it was gone the ground was TOTALLY clean of ALL debris. EVERYTHING. Like a giant shop vac had come down to earth.
