I have not seen them before. I guess they would be classified as exonumia. I assume they occur during set up operations. Then taken out of the mint and sold to collectors. Cheers, RickO
Zions- these are paper die trials and are known on all modern U.S. coinage. I had a group of these 15 years ago. Fred Weinberg had/ has a large group, and offered some certified by NGC.
Live and learn.
I did not know that the mint did paper impressions.
Is it done to space the dies a certain distance apart like using it as a shim spacing done in a Machinist's world?
Would like to know.
Thanks
Wayne
Kennedys are my quest...
Yes, I have seen them. Wish I had one. Fred Weinberg can probably shed some more light on them.
How many of these exist and does it have a Judd number? What is this worth?
This one is offered at $3,000.
Is it like this one which sold for $34,500?
1903 MS Louisiana Purchase Three-Piece Cardboard Die Trial Impressions With Pattern Reverse--Judd-A 1903-1, Pollock-3512/3515, Unique--NGC
Wow. I have a lot on my plate with coins. Now a whole new area of study. Thanks 🤓🙀
🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
Interesting. Never knew about them before now.
Zions- I bought it out of HA for $34,500.
Awesome! It's actually really cool to see you purchased that for $34.5k! And that you sold it too. There's some great info on your site for people to click through and read. It's notable that this is unique for collectors.

Zions- it was one of my favorite purchases from Heritage. A gold commem pattern die trial in cardboard. Not only is it unique, it also has a design of a pattern reverse!
I had 3 people who wanted to buy it. But one was a dealer who does alot of business with me so...
There were a few Kennedy half dollar die set-up impressions sold at HA.com in 2015.
@Zoins gee, looks a lot like something somebody showed me at ANA I thought it was cool then and I still think it's cool.

Looks like this sold on August 31! Is there any way to figure out what this sold for now?
