Old Crusty Gold Newp
In the recent market, I’ve been mostly on the sidelines with my core set but this was a “cheap thrill”. Its outside of my draped bust $5 set, but It’s been real tough to find original gold lately so I couldn’t resist.
Collector of Original Early Gold with beginnings in Proof Morgan collecting.

Very nice looking AU gold coin....The green sticker enhances it
If it fits your set, you should show pictures... Sounds very nice. Cheers, RickO
I agree with the comment about the current market. I have been sidelined too. That is a great looking Half Eagle. AU55 with CAC are really nice looking coins. Thanks for sharing that one.

Gorgeous original gold. What’s not to like!

Nothing more beautiful than an old piece of gold that has served its purpose.

Nice 1840s gold! In an older blue holder.

That's a winner! Love the color.
That’s a keeper!
Love it, Old gold is around but at what price??
Nice!
That there's an attractive Philly Half Eagle!
That's a great look on old gold. I love the 1840's dates.
Agreed. I like her little sister the 44QE too. Lots of very scarce Philly gold from the 1840’s.
Excellent pickup. Great color!
Very attractive piece.
Is the current market an aberration or a new baseline after years of flat to modest appreciation?

I keep debating that in my head. Every so often the coin market is due for a leg up…..Time will tell I guess
IMHO I think it is a new baseline as the pandemic seems to have attracted a few more collectors of old gold...and with the very modest surviving populations it didn't take much to move the needle...as you know many old gold dates have pops of 100 or less versus 8000 for a 1799 silver dollar for example...
very nice indeed
For most coins, if another is likely to appear in the next 1-3yrs, it’s easy to wait. For a coin you might not have a chance at for 10 yrs, I’d rather pay the price.
