1834 half with envelope toning

JRoccoJRocco Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭✭

Soaked a pale 1834 half in acetone to remove any undesirable stuff and put it in an old envelope I had and just let her sit for a dozen years. She sure did acquire what I believe to be envelope toning. Silver sure does tone.

Compared to white, probably a noticeable improvement. Would love to see "before's".

I think this one has slightly less chance than the 28-112 ... maybe 40/60 ... but potential for a higher grade (55)

Coin has hairlines - ya sure there was not a cleaning also?

The lines are very minimal and are not really a problem. The coin was an online purchase long ago and the coin had been dipped and was lacking. I just gave it an acetone bath and left it to recover for a long time. Looks much nicer than before.

Would like to see a before picture...It would help to understand the effect of the long term envelope storage. Cheers, RickO
