It is to a link posted by PCGS regarding embossing method concerning altered mint marks.

It is a common "feature" in the software. Try not replying directly or removing the links in the post you are replying to.

    Uh oh.

  • TurtleCatTurtleCat Posts: 4,628 ✭✭✭✭✭

It can be caused by one of several things:

    • forum bug - some posts just hit it for some reason
    • post has a link to a place not approved/allowed
    • possibly words or other things that catch in the filter.

Rest assured that no one ever looks at the posts needing approval so usually posting again or looking carefully at what you post next time is the only recourse.

I can not even start a new thread about the embossing process involving mint marks.
Who can I contact to get approval?

I did remove the link in the original post and it allowed me to reply to the original post.
Still do not understand why I can not provide a link to a PCGS article.
    Thanks

I have been denied approval at least 8 times over the course of several days.
Any Admins out there who can explain what the rules are?

I pm'd it to @MsMorrisine and he was able to list the link.
He thinks it is a software bug and since I have a "Bug Badge", I asked him to report it.

I remember the report when the first batch of embossed mint marks hit at a Long Beach show. Dozens of pieces sold in Capital Plastics holders while the show was very busy. Then somebody had a lull and opened up a holder.

I get that message sometimes when I try to correct typo errors when I’m posting something. If I try to edit multiple times in a short period it happens and I get that message. My post goes “poof” and disappears and never comes back. If I do it to a thread where I’m the original poster it makes the whole thread disappear even if other people posted after me.

it's not really about pronouns as I am a he.

even before there was a world wide web there was still the internet.

    That would be a no!
I hit the "Preview Button" every time so I can view what I am about to post.
The minute you hit the "Post Comment" button, the message "Your comment will appear after it is approved" appears.

Look above to the posters that it did not work for.
Very happy that you are a tried and true poster who follows the rules (as I do).
You could only list the link which would work on its own but not work with any added comments.
The link works now but not then. Hope this clarifies things.

I’m convinced that it’s a forum bug. It’s happened to me on numerous occasions, each time, when quoting another poster within my message. It had nothing to do with links (as none were included) or the innocuous subject matter of the posts. It also appeared to occur more frequently when I was editing a post.

I have not tried since @MsMorrisine was able to post the link.
Getting the link posted was the important thing so others could see and read it.
This was my first and only attempt to post a link.
I figured that the Admin would have responded by now but they have not.
    No big deal anymore.

did you post it in the hyperlink (url) box above or just post the link direct in the post. i think it may work both ways. to post a youtube video, we just post the link direct to this box, which is nice.

there is a small chance that your post/link were put together in such a way as to create an unacceptable string of characters. i've seen this on and off over the many years i've been on various software versions of forums. not saying that is the case here but it would be one of the first things to check for them.

pre-approved/blocked words/code etc leave a ton of exceptions to be exploited intentionally/accidentally and the software/hardware is set up to react by default whenever certain criteria are met and sometimes to get the last small percent, must be done one by one and on a case by case basis. just comes with the territory. that doesn't take into account actual glitches which are usually unintentionally set off on our part.

they also have various global/local settings for users in all and specific categories for various reasons. it can get a bit harrowing to set this up on the software side if one isn't well versed in doing so. i have tinkered in the past with this stuff but it can require a lot of maintenance if the members/managers/mods or whatever categories for permissions are being refined/changing.

    ok enough on that.

I discovered another thing that can cause the automatic "your comment needs to be approved" message. If you're copy/pasting from another source that uses curly quotes (or basically anything not in the 7 bit ascii space) then it'll trigger the message. I think the forum software is looking for anything outside the basic character set to flag - not just a link. It may be to remove what it thinks are "invisible characters" from being posted.
