A very exciting (for me) new purchase arrived today!

Rob41281Rob41281 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭✭✭

So cool to own a first year of the first type of any denomination. Owned a scudzy chain cent in the past in which you could only tell what it was by the faint remaining visibility of the chain and this has that beat.
This half dime is the kind of stuff I dreamt about back in the early 90’s , around the age of 10, when I was first introduced to collecting, flipping through my first price guide in awe of these early type coins that I figured I’d never own a decent example of. When the opportunity came up to purchase it I couldn’t pass it up. Not the highest grade but thrilled to have one of my own!

Congrats. Nice readable date. I remember getting my first coin (Large Cent) minted in the 1700's was a great experience.

When I see a coin like this I always wonder what stories it could tell about the hands it has passed through. History in your hand. Enjoy!

Nice! It's fun to think that coin may have been in George Washington's pocket at one time.

I think any US coin dated 1794 is pretty special. That's a genuinely scarce coin (<350 total pop between pcgs and ngc) and well preserved considering the amount of use. They used the dies until they pretty much crumbled ( loads of die cracks on unc examples on Heritage). I did not know that all of these were actually struck in 1795 until just now.

That’s a really cool piece. I’m a sucker for anything from the 1700s, and the more intrigue you can add beyond just the 17, the better!

Beautiful coin, dude! Any US coin in the 1700's are in a league of their own. Including the owners of these coins like you. Someday I'll be in that class as well. Someday. Congratulations :)<3

I have never owned a 94 anything, a 93 chain in PO1 with a decent chain and head outline being all that was left and a dozen or so 95s. Great coin
