3c nickels, just the ambiguity of the later Proofs/Business strikes is off putting and that might be the most interesting thing about them. I can't get behind trickles
The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin
Also, coins that easily deteriorate. Examples would be MS70 silver eagles and high-grade zinc cents. I'd hate to check on these coins after a few years and see where they have lost their value based on environmental issues that are not easy to prevent.
I think I have at least one example of most modern coins so I really can’t say I wouldn’t collect any of them ever. But most modern coins after 1964 I have less interest in than older ones.
Post-1964 unless it’s an error or special variety.
Also I don’t like any of the non-Buffalo nickels.
Finally - I don’t view owning an example of something as collecting it. If you’ve got a type set I think you can own a trime and still accurately say you don’t collect them.
Morgans and anything modern. In fact I have little interest in collecting most series of federal coinage. I would rather focus on tokens, medals, colonials, pioneer gold, and numismatic literature.
Never collect ever ever? Modern dollar coins (Ike and up), Classic or Modern commemoratives, Franklins, JFK halves, modern silver bullion, and zincolns.
At least those are generally ones I could afford. Lots of series I’ll never touch just due to cost.

Most everything that is said to be part of the regular series of coins, but not included in the Proof sets. Aside from one type coin, the Innovation dollars series comes to mind.
So far as the 19th century goes for me “one and done” is good enough for the Nickel Three Cent Piece.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Presidential dollars..... No interest at all.... SBA is a close second. Cheers, RickO
I understand where you're coming from ricko. But I did do the Presidential Dollars. P, D, and Proof. Something to do. So many of the portraits I thought were very poorly done...... But...it kept me busy looking for a good specimen regardless. I just completed my SBA set. Also P,D, and proof. Not very exciting but a hands on project. Have to keep busy.
Anything made of gold. I don't care how nice a design is (and many are attractive) NO design can ever overcome the intrinsic ugliness of that baby crap yellow color.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I pretty much feel the same but this was one of my exceptions

I'm surprised no one mentioned the first spouse series of half ounce gold coins.

Right. I agree. I just look at those as a not very attractive spending buck. They were used around here when I was a kid. I always wondered,...... "Who is that fat lady?" kinda looked like the girl down the road..... no joke.....Yuk!

My problem with them is that they are sooo common.
Im not a barber man. Lots of guys I respect love them. I just can't get into them. They are my radish. I think I should like them but every year when I try and bite into them no bueno.

11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
Morgans. I know tons of people love them, but it's just not a design I like.

Good call.
I have a couple in my type sets, yet that is all.

Is it the design or the commonality of this coin that keeps you from collecting them?
peacockcoins
Anything clad. I hate clad coins.
Clad coins, Lincoln Memorial cents (major errors excepted).

Shield Nickels. I have a few of them for type but I would never take it any farther than that. Not even interested in upgrading what I have.
I have a few copper coins but the metal as a whole is off putting and unstable. And don't even get me started on Zinc or steel

Barber dimes, quarters, halves along with his liberty V-nickels. Not enamored with the redundant design.
President dollars.
Clad coinage, except Ike dollars, I like Ike.

Small dollars of any kind. A token coinage with dull designs minted by the billions.

$1 gold dollar pieces.
Just too tiny to appreciate them.
Kennedys and Ike Dollars.

Roosevelts - being so small, with bad eyesight and big fat fingers they are a pain in the butt for me to roll search/ collect

Lincolns, Morgans, & all current circulating coinage & their silver counterparts with shared designs. Sick of them.
I like the reverse, but I don't like the obverse. The ubiquity also doesn't help.

I don't collect US anymore; have not bought even one in about 15 years.
I don't intend to buy any but if I did, the list I wouldn't buy is a lot longer than the one I would.

Modern coins. Particularly ASE
Roosevelts.
Too modern and I prefer Mercury dimes.
So, if I were to expend the effort and cash.....It would be Mercs, instead.

I think I've already collected just about everything except US gold.
I don't think I'd ever start a collection of French aluminum. The coins seen too common, vulgar, and pedestrian to my tastes.
Curiously though I set these aside in Gem when I see them.
Go figure.
I'm a type set guy, but am all done collecting anything younger than me, (53) and anything of any age that was "made for collectors"
