I have no intention of posting where I live but if somebody else wants to, that's their business. We're all big boys and girls, and can make our own decisions. Just my opinion

I personally think threads like this should be deleted.

If people don't like this thread then why are they still posting on it? Don't ruin it for others.

    Absolutely.
ChesterB, just go do something else for a while.

Will do! I just think it needed to be said and if no one cares then I don't either. It's not my life nor property.

You live in one of the most beautiful areas of the U.S.A. Being from California , I found it very interesting how people in other states refer to the area where they live. i.e., North East Tennessee. I can understand West Tennessee, Central (Mid?) Tennessee, and East Tennessee. But Northeast? The idea that Tennessee has a Northern or Southern area just seems odd. The one that stands out most to me happened in Massachusetts. I read in a local newspaper that a certain event occurred in South West Massachusetts. WHAT? I mean there's a Southern California that extends for about 400 miles and a Northern California that extends for around another 400 miles but Massachusetts is smaller than the County where live. South West Massachusetts????? Blink while driving there and you miss the whole state!......Anyway, the area around Bristol, Tenn. is beautiful!

Of course so many people are pouring into the state now from California, New York, and Chicago that all bets are off as the culture changes while incorporating newcomers.

Too bad for you. So many young people with families here in California want to get out. EVERYBODY?!?! I don't blame them. Destination...... TENNESSEE! I tell them that they won't be able to handle the weather. Humidity etc. I tell them they should consider another Western state just because of the air that they are used to. Anyway, who listens? So many friends, family etc. have moved to the South and then HATE the weather. Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia. They want to come back to California but can't afford it now. They're stuck. Once you leave California you can never come back......too expensive.

P.S. A very large segment of the population in Southern California has generational roots in the Southern states. They're just just going back home to the places where Grandma and Grandpa came from. I don't blame them.

Lol, I don’t have a problem with people moving around. It happens. It’s just odd that they have all chosen Tennessee as their destination all of a sudden.

I think you’re right, people really underestimate the heat and humidity factors if they haven’t faced them before. It’s definitely not for everyone.

It has definitely sent the housing market skyrocketing. My house , on books, is about 70% more expensive than it was 18 months ago. I do wonder when normalcy settles back in and such if things will change or burst. People list their houses here and get firm offers over list within 24 hours now.

Thank goodness all those leaving CA are finding other places now, AZ and TX were and still are a huge jumping off point for many leaving the west coast. My house on paper is up over 200% in the last year with no end in sight, great on paper but if I sold I could not replace at the rate the market is moving up.

I've had to battle the county every reassessment they have done since I moved here. Even though the county I live in isn't in the Atlanta zone, we have the highest property tax rate in the state.

If you lived in Southern West Virginia or most of Appalachia, your fear of your location wouldn't be a problem. I was lucky enough to have been born in the house I now live in and it is most certainly home. I know 95% of everyone that lives within several miles of me. My property is mine and my family would defend it with all we have. I have never worried about someone taking something of mine.
I have lived in 11 different states and 7 different countries and none compare to my home. If you are that worried about people knowing where you live maybe you should live elsewhere.

It’s the shape of the state. The three grand divisions are East, Middle, and West. But because the Tri-Cities area is located at a point a lot of people will say Northeast TN. Even when at Reelfoot Lake (Tipton County) people didn’t say Northwest TN. I’d say natives in general won’t use other terms in regards to TN geography. They will use it in reference to a specific city, though.

Of course so many people are pouring into the state now from California, New York, and Chicago that all bets are off as the culture changes while incorporating newcomers.

Bonus fact: Tennessee has 7 distinct geographic regions and is neighboring 8 states.

Most people don’t know that Tennessee is in two different time zones as well as Florida.

    And Kentucky!

It's actually not odd at all. I have worked, lived (for weeks or months) and traveled in all the lower 48 states except Maine and North Dakota. Tennessee is a wonderful state with a reputation, well earned, for good people. The word is out!

There are computer programs/hacks that can take look at a picture and tell
you where the picture was taken within 30 feet. There was a thread about
this a few years ago on this forum. There are even You-Tube videos that can
show this as well. They did with a trash can on a city street with no clues as to which
city the pic was from. If they can do that then a pic of your property from 500 ft.
up taken by a drone shouldn't be any problem for the computer savy.

Are you guys serious? Based on several posters to this thread already, I could find out where they live, their telephone number and what they do in about 15 mins. I didn’t but the info is out there if I wanted to.

Plus, people can hack a site and you’re making it easier for them to find you.

This isn’t a weird conspiracy theory. You’re putting info about yourself to the whole world.

New Zealand is a super easy place to visit, especially the less populated (and more beautiful) South Island. As long as you don't mind driving on the "wrong" side of the road, getting around is a breeze. From Central Otago wine-tasting to mountain climbing in the Southern Alps, there is truly something for everyone. Post-Covid, that is...
