Neither of us were in the military (though her "ma" was a WAVE during WWII) and in this case, I don't think she in this song even got 16 days with her new hubby, much less 16 years...but Carrie Underwood is by far her favorite singer (in fact it was right before we got married that she was on American Idol) and I can't think of a better song/video to describe the situation and to give tribute to her...and the change in her dress was VERY nicely done.

A couple more tribute songs for her...when me and my grandma were playing cards at her house last Sunday (we restarted that tradition the previous Sunday because we both got COVID vaccines now) we had the Music Choice Classic Country channel on and this song happened to play...and I told my grandma how much my wife adored Marie Osmond:

    https://youtu.be/FMmM_eKGa28

Not so much while we were married but before then like in the 80s/90s or something she was very much into ABC soaps and she was especially into the whole Luke and Laura thing...now I had already done this song as a tribute to my dearly departed Tweetie (our first cat together) for her passing in 2012 and I certainly think the song fits here.  :(

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oi9nJuQWEb8

And yes I will do just this for both my dearly departed girls  :(

So today is the day that would've been our Super Sweet Sixteen :( So to help commemorate that day I decided to buy a few lotto tickets that has our usual lucky numbers (the ones that match our anniversary/birthdates and such) and gave each one a kiss and looked up at the sky and said "this is for you honey"  :)  She often bugged me to get lotto tickets for Powerball and such but I didn't think it was a good idea with us only being on SSDI...but I think for this one occassion, on what should've been this very special day, I'll do it for her and just see what happens. :)

EDIT: Well no luck today on the Lucky 4 Life, Cash Ball, Five Card Cash or Pick 4 (first time I ever did Pick 4), BUT there's still Mega Ball and PowerBall!

I did in fact get her ashes yesterday 😞 At least this way she (as well as Tweetie, our first cat together who passed away in 2012 and was also cremated) will always be close to me and not out in some graveyard much further away 😞 It's still really sad though that both of them checked out way before they should've...

You have friends here ....life can be harder than waiting on a backed up log from Psa. I've lost 11 people from cancer in about 10 years. So yes, time does heal, but having good people around you will always help you! You can't never forget, but after all the sorrow, pain and self doubt....YOU have to go on and live also! It's a hard lesson in life. You end up looking at things differently in the world after loss. All my very best wishes to you!

If you don't mind me asking, how the heck do you lose eleven people from cancer in about ten years? I hope there's no great risk you might get it someday, whatever kind it is. Apparently it must be an especially bad kind. :(

And to be fair I hope the backed up log from PSA clears up too! It'll be a good sign that we're finally hopefully gonna get past this whole COVID thing.

Must be in the water, because I Know for a fact cancer takes more people than any "Soo called" virus. I've seen it too many times in my life. As far as a backed up log of cards.....I could care less if people are healthy.....and that's my heart to be fair. I only want you to be fine in life along with others. I know of pain also.... I'm Soo sorry! You can always talk to me if you need my friend. On my mind. And yes, that cancer was almost all ...stage 4 including my Mother

    Update:

So I finally got my food stamps and that not having my Medicare premium taking off the top of my SSDI set up, so that's good I suppose. And I'm making good progress on sorting and putting away my wife's things too. I'm doing okay-ish most of the time but sometimes like during overnight hours it's like I got so used to us calling each other just whenever and now...I can't. Now during regular daytime/evening hours I can at least talk with my grandma (who does check up on me most everyday) but obviously during overnight hours i can't. 😞

All the more reason I'm so thankful to have my kitty...I need him now more than ever, honest...

Well for starters, I said and promised to her again and again that even if I live to be a 100 I'll always have at least one kitty and he/she/they will be my BEST friend(s)...she's the one who introduced me to kitties and how they are man's REAL best friend and that is by far her most lasting legacy of all :)

She also had (somehow) wanted to help me with those 1971 Topps PSA 7's and among her belongings I got back from the nursing home she was in, she had one of the checklists in PSA 7 start me off with. For obvious reasons I don't think I'll get to do all that much...maybe start with trying to get all the checklists in PSA 7 and perhaps in her honor a PSA 7 Yaz and Ted Williams? Surely I can manage that at least...

When my Dad passed from stage 4 lung cancer 10 yrs ago, my PJ was a great help.
She would lay right beside me for hours seemingly knowing I needed comfort.
Sadly she passed 2 weeks ago.

Oh I love so much when my kitty gives me those big black eyes...they are so cute like that, aren't they? Especially when they're also all excited and skippy! I hope you guys don't mind me bringing this back up but I had to share this with all of you.  So yesterday I received something very special from the Kentucky General Assembly (our state legislature).  I don't know who set this up exactly but she is more than deserving of this special citation, which reads:

    THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
    COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY

    IN MEMORIAM

The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky hereby pays tribute to the memory of

    DENISE HELENA RUMAGE

and joins with Representative DJ Johnson

in expressing deepest sympathy to the Rumage Family and all who share in the loss of this esteemed citizen on June 9, 2021. Preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Whooley, she is survived by her cherished husband of sixteen years, Estil Rumage, and other family members, friends, and loved ones.  This highly regarded lady, a respected resident of Owensboro, Kentucky; a native of Malden, Massachusetts; and a longtime cat-lover, is remembered for the many and generous contributions she made to her family, friends, and community.  Denise Helena Rumage will be deeply missed by all whose lives were touched by her presence.

Done in Frankfort, Kentucky, this fifth day of August, in the year two thousand twenty-one.

David W Osborne -- Speaker, House of Representatives
DJ Johnson -- Member, House of Representatives

And in other news, while I was looking through my baseball cards (that's my other main collecting hobby) I had the 70s Music Choice channel playing and it just so happened they played this song and it made me cry a bit...because it just so happened to be the song we did our first dance to together as husband/wife :,(

Nice to have those memories. Songs are always powerful cues. Thanks for sharing. As the grieving process continues at some point a song will play that will make you smile at the way you feel thinking of her memory. You will always miss her but someday something you see or hear will cue a memory that will make you smile because of her and what you shared.

Sorry for your loss of your wife. Prayers sent to you and your family. I lost my mother last October and it was devastating to me and my family. While I absolutely love dogs, I have also favored cats. They make great little buddies. Mine helped me through so difficult times in my life, including my mother's passing. He decided to join her at the end of May and he was buried under my mother's family tree that was planted a few years back. No matter if it's a dog, cat, bird, snake, or whatever, they become family.

    Hang in there, Estil.

    My Man
I too lost my wife in 2012 a year after I retired with plans of enjoying the rest of our lives together after 37 years together.Life will never be the same.I had to sell most of my collection which would have been easily 6 digit figures right now.

    Sorry for you man.

Maybe she will hook up with my Annie some day.

    God bless you Man.

I already mentioned how she helped me get a 1994 Pinnacle Museum Collection set a couple years back...and I can't believe I also forgot this major acquisition we also got what, a year or so ago? Would you believe I was able to get ALL the 1994 Score insert sets? That was one of my favorite sets/packs back in the day (1994 is the first full year I really got into collection but only had enough to get a few packs here and here) and I already had both the regular and Gold Rush sets so to get ALL the insert sets to go with them is quite a prize!

So Denise, thanks so much again for helping me get these and whatever else I get in the future, whether that be in my card or video game or book hobbies, it's all in tribute to you. :)

I hope you guys don't mind me bringing up this topic again but I did get an ad in the mail advertising this Precious Moments item (I don't know the right term for these kinds of things) and she already had a few (including matching Kentucky Wildcats (my team/alma mater) and Boston Red Sox (her team/birthplace) ones showing the couple watching the TV and it read "Every day is a [slam dunk/home run] with you"; I LOVED it whenever we could get matching pairs like that 🙂 ). This would've been PERFECT for this coming Christmas and it really hit me that now I can no longer do that kind of thing and that was one of my favorite parts of being married 😞

And here is what our matching UK/Red Sox ones look like:

I can't believe it's already almost three months...where does the time go? Thank God I still have my kitty and my grandma...
