The first Altoona, PA Battlefield Coin Show was held on June 3-5, 2021 at the Jaffa Shrine Center. Early birds were from Noon -5pm on June 3rd. The show attendance was lighter than I expected with 408 coming through the front door. Most of the dealers I talked with were happy with their sales and most stated that the main sales were dealer to dealer. Three dealers did not do well. One did not show up on Thursday, arrived about 10:30 on Friday and left at around 10:30 on Saturday. Another dealer did not show up until 12:30 on Saturday and left around 1:30. He had very little in the case and was not congenial. The third dealer deals in common date single Lincoln cents and common date proof singles.

Collectors were very happy with the show and locals said there hadn't been a show at the Jaffa Shrine Center in over 30 years. A couple from Enid, OK came to the show. The wife had graduated in the Jaffa Auditorium years ago and wanted to see the building again. The husband brought fliers for the Enid, OK show and dropped them off at the table. Collectors stated they could find everything they needed for their collections with the complaint being they did not have enough money to purchase everything they needed or wanted.

I decided to start a 10 piece collection of two cent pieces (1864-1872 with 1864 Small motto) at this show. Amazingly, I completed the set in VG-F with ease. There were 5 1864 Small motto coins in dealer cases and 4 1872s in dealer cases. The 10 piece set cost me $760 to complete. This is the 1872 I purchased.

There were no medical emergencies, falls or injuries at the show and no security problems. We have a great team for security and several dealers commented about how visible and professional they were.

We will promote another Altoona, PA Battlefield Coin Show on August 26-28, 2021. Please plan to attend.

When both the dealers and collectors are happy, it must indeed have been a good show!

A lot of pent-up demand out there for coin shows.

The pardon is for tyrants. They like to declare pardons on holidays, such as the birthday of the dictator, or Christ, or the Revolution. Dictators should be encouraged to keep it up. And we should be encouraged to remember that the promiscuous dispensation of clemency is not a sign of political liberality. It is instead one of those valuable, identifying marks of tyranny.

Altoona is a neat city to visit. Glad to hear the success of the show and sorry I missed seeing the center. Would have liked to seen it. Also - while your there take a few minutes to drive up to Horseshoe Curve - it's worth the 10 minute drive. Railroading at its best.

Slightly off-topic, but there is a mexican restaurant in Altoona Called el campesino. It was hands down my favorite place to eat when I was attending Penn State in State College (I would regularly make the hour drive there for it). Can't vouch if it is still awesome, but anyone attending the show in the future may want to give it a shot.

It is still there and the food is fantastic. My wife and I ate there one night after the show.
