nice looking coin
learned long ago I cant grade copper
Looks nice and original. Nice details as well... F12?

Nice pick up looks all there.
Hoard the keys.
VF sharpness, a little dark and crusty, but way above the average for this type.
Vf30, details, for environmental damage. But not a bad example at all. Meaty and very acceptable for a Dansco album.
I like it a lot, they are hard to find without serious surface issues. Here is the 1812 from my 7070, there's quite a bit of obverse corrosion and it was still a major upgrade for me.

Here’s mine, Cleaned-VF Detail. I wanted one with good surfaces and the color is a bit off, but acceptable.
Hoping the OP doesn’t mind....Here’s mine, performing double duty in the type set and the large cent collection. I think it should straight grade if ever submitted, with just that tiny spot of roughness on the obverse.
VF25 . . . . . and I love Classics !!!!!

Don't mind at all! That's a beautiful piece! I think yours would straight grade... after almost 2 years of looking, I bought this one at about half the money I had allocated... because of the corrosion issues... which are definitely there, but not terminal.

That's a beauty for a tough issue....25 !
I'd guess VF 20 or so; really nice for a short series that usually comes with all sorts of problems.
Hey Everyone... thanks for the comments. I cracked this out of an ANACS holder: 30 Details, Corroded. and I felt it was priced accordingly. I had also been looking at pieces in straight-graded holders that still lacked the color and surfaces I was going for or still had other "issues". I'll still look at Classic Heads, as well as other Large Cents, but as others have said... this issue doesn't come around "nice" all that frequently. These were the seller's images...

This is the way to obtain early large cents on a budget, when one must compromise. Do your homework, look at lots of coins, and be patient.
You’ll be rewarded with a coin you enjoy owning and should have no trouble reselling when the time comes.
And for those flippantly advocating not to buy coins with any problems, please feel free to post your early copper....assuming that you actually own any.
My example of the 1812 small date.
Very subtle smoothing or brushing, but overall nice eye appeal. Purchased from the Rod Burress estate from a Cinci dealer at FUN. If it was good enough for a long time EAC president, it’s good enough for me. I shudder to guess what frisco mint would charge for it.
SUPER TOUGH coin to find nice.
Congrat's to those who have one!!
Gorgeous coin! Super clean surfaces. I think most of the Classic Head series comes darker in color... at least the coins I've looked at over the last couple of years. Perhaps the pieces with nice medium to light brown color and clean surfaces are being tightly held and rarely come up for sale. When they do, I'm priced out of the picture. Current PCGS price guides suggest $1200 for a straight-graded VF30 (and I was prepared to pay that)... I paid closer to F12 money for the piece in the OP... I couldn't find a straight-graded 30 (the coin... not the plastic) for less ~$2k. There was a piece on ebay for, I believe, ~$1600 that was the proper color and had decent surfaces, but also a huge scratch. To me, the calculus becomes: why spend $1600 on a coin with issues when I can spend 1/3 of that on a coin with issues... As I said earlier, I still collect Large Cents and will be looking at Classic Head pieces for the Type Set, but I feel now I can start looking at other coins... the Classic Head was becoming something of an obsession...

Really nice large cent....Looks like it is really nice in hand. Great pictures too, but I like 'holding' large copper to evaluate. I would be happy with that one. Cheers, RickO
VF details env damage. Still decent.
