The 2021 Law Enforcement Commemorative Set

BillJonesBillJones Posts: 33,987 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have been weening myself off of the modern commemorative coins in recent years, but I decided to buy the Law Enforcement commemorative coin set given the problems the police have faced in recent years.

I found the reverse of the half dollar especially interesting. It's odd, but it seems that the half dollar in these sets almost always has a better or more interesting design than the dollar, despite the fact that the artist has less room to use. The single coin price for this piece is $40, which I think is ridiculous. These coins used to be priced for YNs and casual collectors.

The silver dollar has the least interesting design of the three coin in my opinion.

The five dollar gold recalls the ultimate sacrifice that offices risk making every day that they are on the job.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I really like the $5 gold coin! Best of the 3 in my opinion 😎

I don't care for the designs on any of the three, just as I don't for most US modern commemoratives.

The Denver Mint uncirculated half that I received had light brown residue spots all over it and I sent it back. Might be the worst I have ever seen new direct from the mint. Must be some rinsing residue?

I like the obverse of the half dollar and the reverse of the $5 gold coin....Now, if they would use those two for a dollar coin, in silver, that would be ideal for me. Cheers, RickO

The reverse of the $5 gold is very different and nicely done IMO. ⭐️ Rare for me to compliment a modern mint issue.

But I hate how they designed the hands/salute on its obverse .... just looks all kinds of wonky.

Yes, I agree. The dollar has too much of a PR element to it, but it's what's necessary today.

I have to agree that the 1/2 usually has a more interesting design than the dollar. Too bad they normally are clad and (as you said) very overpriced when issued.

I think playing 2nd fiddle to the silver dollar has allowed for more artistic leeway for that denomination.

I have three uncirculated silver dollars, two uncirculated clad halves. Overall, I like the obv and rev design on the silver dollar best. The star on the obv of the half is quite striking when wobbling the coin in the light.

    The sales figures seem low?
