The Palace Collection catalog is a good one to have. I bought one of those several years ago. Here is another good 1954 sale catalog I picked up recently. Parson had two large sales. He sold much of his very large collection around WWI. He kept collecting after that which lead to this 1954 estate sale. I bought it because it contained the sale of an important Canadian specimen cent.

Just received this manual of European medals and plaques today. Mostly for the curiosity and visual delight. Inspiring works of art!
.
That is a great book that, unlike most specialized works, covers medals from a large variety of time periods and geographic regions.
If you're interested in pure visual delight, I would highly recommend the exhibition catalog from "The Currency of Fame", showing truly impressive Renaissance medals:

Volume 1, covering 1860-1989, a huge book, 460 pages, excellent pictures and info:
Any idea where I can buy this book?
I think I bought my copy from them at a show in Zurich. Not sure who might have them here in the USA, but why not contact the authors through their website?
Three new Medinas for the collection. The Admiral Vernon and Obsidionales books are quite rare, 10-15 extant. The other is a 1926 collection of numismatic letters including those of Medina covering a variety of topics. The letters themselves are available but are very rare, less than 10. extant.
My latest additions have to do with Japan (surprise). First an English language catalog that is of a bit more scope than the JNDA catalog. In English. There is more than one thing in there I have spent hours parsing out and/or getting translated (or pointing my phone at and letting google translate do it's thing...suboptimal).
Clark Smith is selling these both on eBay and on his website.
Another very cool library addition has only been done by PDF. Backstory, Kagins had a recent auction with loads of pre-Meiji reform items, things that are not covered in the JNDA or anywhere else. They are called 'fantasy' which I think might be a happenstance of translation. Not fantasy issues in the modern sense (like the INA retro patterns) but fantasy as in not a unified government issue. There is a book by Takegawa that was apparently a lesser quality translation of the pre-existing work by Kondo, Kingin Zoruku which was an album of gold and silver issues circa 1810.
In any case, PCGS is just now using Takegawa and Zoruku to attribute these 'fantasy' (and how I wish that word was not on the label) and slab. I actually already had a Takegawa translation, and interestingly enough a copy of the Far East Journal that includes a review of the Takegawa book-- a bit unflattering as the translation was done by people who apparently did not know of the Kondo book.
But I digress.
Fortunately there is an online PDF version of the Kondo Kingin Zoruku, which I have bookmarked and downloaded. Vs. buying. This link was also courtesy of Clark Smith. I never would have found it. And much as I'd like to drop $3-4K on the actual paper copy, that seems unwise as I have no idea how to properly store it!
Here are the newest additions to my library and my collection, included together because they both came from the same source - the author.
Colonial Guatemala has so far been a bit too intimidating for me to collect, especially since I try to collect the series I like by date. That said, the coin I got is a welcome addition to my collection as it is a tougher date. But regardless of what I collect the book is a wealth of information and primary source material that I'm excited to learn from.

Nice! Worth the wait.
The cuartillas book is only $640, not that it makes much difference.
I ordered a set but don't feel very smart about it. Seems like it should have been priced at less than half the asking price.

Chinese coins have a big percentage in this book. Can't believe it.
So does Sovereigns, but that - I can believe.
China has 13% while Great Britain has 6%. I bet more and more investors and collectors will get into Chinese coin
Maybe 7%, depending how you count them, but a sovereign is a single coin compared to the entire country of China. Not bad!
I agree that the Chinese market is up and coming.
In case there was interest - NOT MY LISTING -
