PCGS Regrade or CAC gold sticker

I have some nice coins that I think are under graded. Would I have a better chance of getting an upgrade of 1 point from a PCGS regrade or a better chance of getting a gold sticker from CAC. Your insight is appreciated.

  • For the record the coins are all pcgs 20th century type coins ms 64-65 in holders from 2009-2010 and 2002-2003.

Welcome back Robbylu52 in his latest alt after his third or fourth ban? Would have been smart not to show the same slq as you showed in a Robbylu52 thread. Just sayin...

  • Still plan on submitting to CAC for informational purposes only to see if I get gold and green stickers and will post when accomplished. You probably will remember my coins anyway. Thanks for your welcome. I do have great respect for PCGS and CAC. I grade more on luster and eye appeal than the technical aspects

Sure makes sense. I am not 100% knowledgeable with all aspects of the forum. Still learning. Thanks for your advice

Interesting question. If the coins are sent back to our host, would it be better to first crack them out before sending them back for regrading?

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

I don’t have any experience to crack out a coin. Was just trying to see what would most likely be successful getting . CAC gold sticker or a PCGS upgrade

The answer to your question is easy - no one knows.

Makes sense that it’s impossible to really determine

Tough question. In my opinion, getting a gold CAC is much harder than getting an upgrade at PCGS.

From my understanding, a gold CAC sticker, and correct me if I’m wrong for those who also have experience with this, is typically awarded to coins that are AT LEAST one and a half, if not more, grades higher than what is currently on the holder.

My understanding is that a gold cac sticker means that cac thinks the coin is undergraded by at least a full grade.

Statistically, the gold bean should be harder. An upgrade could result in a C coin at the higher level. A gold CAC is supposed to be an A/B coin at the higher level.

While true, it says virtually nothing about the particular coins under consideration. On a practical basis, the exercise is futile. For all we know, the coins have very little chance for either an upgrade or a gold sticker (never mind a green one).

Agreed. But ask a generic question, get a generic statistical answer.

Statistically, the OP has a 100% chance of being banned once someone notices he's an alt.

Send to CAC first if you don’t get results you want then PCGS.

Among other ways, because in another thread under his new identity, he posted a picture of his standing Liberty quarter, which he'd posted under a banned identity.

I have also been fortunate enough to have JA review some green stickered coins that I felt were deserving of a gold sticker. He agreed and changed the green sticker to gold. So far, I have been successful on four coins.

Forum detectives are awesome ... ;) Need to get some popcorn for this episode. :D The proper answer - as noted above - is there is no answer.... Submit to one or the other and find out. If not happy, try the other. Cheers, RickO

Don't you have to have a CAC account or access to a dealer who will submit to CAC?

If not a possible avenue, it is simpler to resubmit to PCGS.

Amusing to watch a 'newly' minted troll go on a bender and get the hammer. For some trolls, Toto doesn't even have to pull back the curtain.

I don't understand the obsession with CAC... either bashing or worrying about a $100 coin.

Reminds me of watching old vids from the Lisot archives.

There was a memorable debate on grading companies.

I only remember the against/cons team had John J Ford.
