Here’s a few period photos I recently had come home; I think they look really good - and I know they’re well protected - slabbed. Below each I’ll show the extra reasons they caught my eye…
As 2022 begins, I wanted to share a look at the cards before encapsulation; most are still raw but I just think there’s a certain charm to a quality scan of a colorful raw card.

Here are a few oddball type Mantles. Nothing special. Sorry for the shadow.
Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.
Just going through my camera roll and was reminded of the only Mantle card I have ever been in possession of, though I didn’t own it. It was part of a complete 1953 set that I brokered for a relative of mine whose late husband had put it together as a kid. It was one of the nicer cards in the set, though it only received a PSA 3.
Awesome Mantle Red Heart. Centering and color are incredible. I hope to own one someday...lol.
Thank you very much; it came off these very boards from @mexpo75 and the card has drawn rave reviews from my fellow card collectors. I thought it was beautiful, too, but it’s nice when others agree so resoundingly. Here’s the back…and it makes me wonder…how did a dog food company design such an enduring card set front and back?

I saw a similar tri-fold photo that sold for $1200 on ebay not that long ago that was absolutely beat to hell. I assume you saw it, perhaps were even the winner?
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

For all intents and purposes, I am a bargain hunter. So while the auction was followed and I was high bidder for a while, it was only up until the bid reached $25. 😉
Most of my cards/items are acquired raw and pretty cheaply, even for Mickey Mantle cards. I focus on the price and the look of the card and typically go for centering over corners but the scale can always slide a little for the right combination of price and look.

I enjoy contributing to a thread on something that's a small focus of mine.
First - an excerpt from the Key Man website:
This is the Mothers Day Pendant given away by the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on "Charm Day" May 14, 1967, the day Mickey Mantle hit his 500 Home Run. The Box, and case for the pendant is rare, and together with the Pendant could sell as high as $400. The Mothers Day pendant was made by Balfour maker of many of the World Series Rings, and Press pins. Mickey Mantle hit his 500 home run during the seventh inning against the Baltimore Orioles pitcher Stu Miller.
Pendant given away at Yankee Stadium 1967 - Mantle's 500th Home Run:
I picked up this copy at the National a few years ago - it's white - very rare to find with the 60s Hartland statues.
Was at the bank lockbox today and took pictures of these two photos that I bought from RMY Auctions several years ago at a National. One is 1957 and the other is 1963.
Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.
Some new items to add since the last update are reason enough to bump the thread...
…but nearly seven months have past since this thread was bumped, we’ve also got new members who have arrived and old members who have returned so maybe they’ll see the thread and we’ll see some more of their Mickey’s as a result. Many of these aren’t new to the thread but new to the slab. And I think they all look pretty great.

Thanks. Yessir, I believe that in terms of "pound-for-pound," so to speak, low to mid grade cards with rare centering and great eye appeal are champs of the hobby. Especially in terms of the value they provide us collectors. I can never rationalize spending extra on corners and a high grade sticker, which is just a subjective opinion (that would most assuredly be different on a different day). Once one has seen 7s bump to 9s and myriad 9s bump to 10s, it becomes very hard to pay just for grade. It's also fun to scour and seek out cards that either present beautifully for their grade or are indeed under-graded. They're like finding treasure

Couldn’t agree more, Matt. Especially of late, one can find some really beautiful cards in a grade of 4:

Don't remember. Do you have the 1968 SI poster of Mantle? I picked mine up back around 1992 - still in the wrap. I may consider framing it down the road.

Thanx for sharing.
Yes, I do, Mike! It’s a little banged up since it was folded up, with some minor tears and pinholes at the corners and edges. Still, it’s nice enough for me and you are right when you say framing it would make it look even nicer...

1954 Ballantine Beer Ad - easel back - masonite board
I got it just to have a nice team pick with the Mick early on - the light is blocking a good shot at him tho.

Many may not know that this book came in a "signed" version?

Wow that 52 4.5 is a stunner.
@DM23HOF your 51 bowman 4 and 52 topps 4.5 show that you can get incredible eye appeal for cards in a lower grade. Great cards
