PAN coin show report

I stopped by the PAN coin show Friday, and it was rockin'!

Way more dealers than usual, and plenty of shoppers. Pretty nearly every table was occupied, making it hard to browse while maintaining social distance! This show is usually in a large room of the Monroeville, PA convention center, with displays and a few bargain tables in a smaller back room. This time, the main bourse spilled into the back room and occupied the perimeter of the main room as well.

I said hi to a few friends before I fled. I'm not quite up to that density of people yet. (That's just me - everyone there seemed respectful of safety requirements.)

The dealers I spoke to said that the hard part was acquiring coins to sell - selling them was not a problem! It was great to hear that the hobby is so active.

I have a feeling that a lot of shows are going to be this way. You can only be happy shopping in front of a computer screen for so long.

I just hope the shows don't become disease spreaders.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Congrats on getting out of the house! In two weeks there is a booked 45 table show that I will go to. Then there is a good sized show in Lakeland, FL on July 1 and Summer FUN on July 8. This could be the largest Summer FUN show in years if dealers and collectors are itching to get out. Fingers crossed everyone can remain healthy through this. My kids and I got our second Pfizer vaccines on Thursday so we should be in a good position within a couple of weeks.

I heard from dealers at the Melbourne show today that the promoter for the summer FUN show said many more dealers than usual have applied for tables at this year’s show. It won’t rival the winter show, but will still be a big show. Psyched!!

That’s what I am expecting. I thought about the Melbourne show but since it is all the way across the state I passed on it. I’m really looking forward to some good shows soon!

    Shows are going to boom.

If dealers want fresh stock they are going to have to raise their offers.

    All glory is fleeting.

Thanks for the report. I do hope the shows continue now.... Time to get back to reality and normal human interface. I have worked (interfacing with the public) for this entire pandemic (except for three weeks). Yes, it was a serious virus (I lost two close friends to Covid). However, now, the vaccine is readily available, protocols are in place, and the need is diminishing as immunity/vaccines increase. Live rationally, do not be shackled by unreasonable fear. Cheers, RickO
