The Duke Collection

There have been some recent threads about the Greatest 100 coins. So I went to the registry to see the collectors putting together this set. One is the Duke collection. This collection has some major major coins in it. Does anyone know anything about this collection or collector? Is it a new entry or has it been around for awhile?

He has an amazing eye for lovely coins, especially high eye appeal proofs. He posts occasionally here on the blog and he is a really nice guy. Very knowledgeable numismatist.
I just finished texting him. Funny.
Yes, he lives in Florida. I agree, he is a heck of a nice guy. He has been on the forum from time to time. He goes by @Floridafacelifter. Maybe we can get him to say hello. Lastly, he is Blue Devil, but let’s not hold it against him.

Thanks guys- I really appreciate the kind comments! And I am thoroughly enjoying the forum!
Nice info. I still wonder who owned The Knoxville Collection years back and why it was called that.

That 1895 $1 PR 68+ DCAM may be one of the most flawless coins I have ever seen

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Congratulations on that Atwater 1838-O half. What a tremendous coin.

i love the fugios
Beautiful set! How many coins do you anticipate having in total when "finished"?
Thank you all- I don’t really have a goal figure in mind or a defined endpoint- as a type collector not a set collector it really provides the freedom to buy whatever you find and love- I guess I’ll keep looking and buying until I don’t enjoy it and obsess over it any more (is that even a thing that happens to any of us?!?)
Really spectacular coins.....No other way to say it. Your box of 20 is amazing!
Splendid coins indeed!

Nice little group there!

Wow, Hansen has 66/100 of that set!
Nice!
In the immortal words of Meatball....2 out of 3 ain’t bad!
Is this the same thing as the "Duke's Creek Collection?" If it is, it's crying shame. I saw those coins up for sale, offered as a group, at the 2013 Winter FUN show for something like $2.3 million. They were in NGC holders, and they were all dipped or cleaned and ruined. You could see that there had once been many great coins there, but now they were a mess.
I think that’s a hilarious typo but I’m not sure Meatloaf would agree.
Also, it’s crazy that a set as complete as Hansen’s is still missing 34!
I’d be in the baseball HOF if I was able to bat 0.667.
Lol! Damn spellcheck!
When you pull these out to show someone without a numismatic background, is it pearls before swine or do they get the beauty, history, profundity feeling?
You know, if they’re not in the “club” unfortunately they usually just don’t get it.....
They usually know about 1943 copper pennies if they're over 40. Some know about the 1909-S VDB. Not so much silver centered cents or 1838-O Half dollars. Lol
I was looking at Hansen's 1794 AU 58+ Flowing Hair Dollar...It has tremendous eye appeal with just a touch of rub.
@Floridafacelifter Really like your Continental Dollar, Chain Cent, Half Disme, Fugio and FH Dollar, as well.
Congrats to all involved in the "100 Greatest" Set Registry.....all amazing, rare beauties.

@Floridafacelifter do you 2 or 3 coins in your collection that are your favorites?
I love big coins- the dollars are definitely my favorites!

@Floridafacelifter .... Outstanding set of coins, and thanks for the pictures above. That Morgan is incredible. Cheers, RickO
